Father's Day 2021
Hi guys,
I've not been around for a while and haven't posted anything for some time but having just seen a similar "Balloon Busting" scenario, I thought I'd share an album my wife shared a year ago on her Facebook page. My daughters decided to treat me to a game of Wings of Glory for Fathers Day. They'd seen me painting my planes for years and were curious about flying them. So I gathered a balloon, some early war biplanes and set up a table in our living room. One of my sons in law decided to also join in while my wife (who has played many games in the past) took pictures. It was a total Rookie Fest!
I hope you all find it interesting, if not enjoyable!
FATHER'S DAY 2021
our Fathers Day celebration started when Rikki arrived at our house...
...dressed up as Rikki (Rosie) Rivetter...
...appropriately accessorized...standing in front of the gaming table
what a wonderful surprise!!!
then Vikki showed up...
...and immediadiately joined in, doubling their Dad's pleasure!!!
...one happy father...flanked by his girls and their even more significant others
after a fabulous repast provided by our girls, Mike ex"planes" the game...they have 12 turns to "bust" his balloon...
...and demonstrates the workings of maneuver cards and elevation pegs...
then the game begins...Vikki and Rikki are flying French Nieuport 11 "Bebe"s armed with rockets while Aigy escorts them in another "Bebe" with extra ammunition...
...as the three French pilots cross over the German trenches, Mike shares a few pointers on taking out their quarry...
Mike flies into the game on turn 3 but Vikki gets to the balloon first and fires off all of her rockets...
...and TOTALLY EXPLODES the balloon ...
...but unfortunately, she's so close that the flames from the burning "drachon" must have set her engine on fire as HER poor "bebe" ALSO exploded...
a brief moment of lamentation was shared for a valiant fallen heroine...
...after which Mike pointed out that the French had achieved their objective (in record time!) and could fly away home...
...but Aigy declared he wanted to dogfight!...
so Mike starts choosing his next card...
...as do Aigy and Rikki...
as Aigy flies past the dropping balloon and Vikki's downed "bebe"...
... he sets his sights on Mike's Halberstadt as Rikki sweeps in to help...
...they all swirl around a bit, taking pot shots at each other, but Mike ends up on Aigy's tail...uh, oh...
...but as he fires, his gun jams...whew!
but eventually, they both charge each other and face off at close range...Mike's gun hits home and Aigy is forced to crash land behind enemy lines, so he joins Vikki in cheering Rikki on...
...as Mike passes over Aigy's wrecked "bebe" and sees him being cordially escorted by the Germans...
...Mike turns his attention toward Rikki...
...and they also face off at close range...but also both jam their guns! doh!!!
so as not to collide, Mike dives while Rikki swerves to the left...they both decide enough is enough and wave each other off to fight another day.
the gamers...the true victor is recognized as she holds up her poor little "Bebe"!!!
Aaaaaaaand we ALL (wife included) plan to revisit "family feuding" in the skies sometime soon!!!
