Invitation to Zoom Wings-of-Glory WWI
Our Club – the Portland Couch Pilots – is inviting non-members to play in our weekly virtual World War One Wings-of-Glory game via Zoom
EXPERIENCED Wings of Glory WW1 Players only.
WHAT: Wings of Glory WW1 weekly game
WHEN: Weekly on Sundays 12 to 5 PM, Pacific Time Zone
- 12 to 1 is social hour and prepping your plane
- 1 to 5 PM flight time
WHO:
- New Pilots who signup via email (see below)
- Pilots who have experience playing Wings of Glory WW1
- Current Club Members
WHERE: Virtually, online, using Zoom (phone, computer or tablet)
COMMAND and SIGNAL:
- You will need a phone that handles texts
- you need a digital device with fair to good audio and video quality
- You need an email account that you check at least twice a week
- You need a stable internet connection that can handle audio and video upload and download
PLAYER Requirements:
- Your own copy of the rules, either in PDF form, or from a Wings of Glory boxed set.
- Your own Wings-of-Glory or Wings-of-War WW1 airplane and its maneuver deck
- Paper and pencil for recording your damage, victory points, etc.
- For each plane you fly (1 or 2):
o Altitude pegs or a marker for your altitude
o Chits, poker chips or a different die for your altitude increments
PLAYER Requirements:
- No commercial pitches, nor sales in the zoom channel
- If pilots want to conduct sales or swaps, take that off-channel to your private communication
Weekly sequence:
MON-THU: New Pilots register by sending EMAIL #1: “New Player Registration for Zoom Wings”
- Current club members/pilots are already registered and therefore do not send email #1
- Current club members/pilots MUST send email #2 if they want a plane to fly on SUNDAY
MON-FRI:
- The host responds to the registration requests from New Pilots
- ALL Pilots (both old AND new) send EMAIL#2: “Playing Zoom Wings Sunday…”
SAT: Host responds to EMAIL #2 by sending out airplane assignments
SUN: 12 PM Pacific Time:
- Host sends out text of meeting ID and Mtg Password
- Pilots joining social hour join the Zoom mtg
SUN: 1 PM Pacific Time
- Pilots not in the social hour join the Zoom mtg
- Pre-flight instructions and take-off
SUN: 5 PM Pacific Time:
- Hard cutoff
EMAIL #1:
NEW Pilots: MONDAY-THURSDAY, send an email to grognard_fow@yahoo.com with the following information:
Subject line – New Player Registration for Zoom Wings
Preferred name during the Zoom game.
Experienced player in Wings-of-Glory or Wings-of-War? Yes/no
Preferred email
Contact telephone number for meeting information
Add my email to the contact email chain? Yes/no
If you have fewer than 5 airplanes, then list them
EMAIL #2:
ALL Pilots FRIDAY, before midnight, send an email to grognard_fow@yahoo.com with the following information:
Subject line – Playing Zoom Wings Sunday {add the date}
Playing this coming Sunday: yes or no
If arriving late, then what time?
If leaving early, then what time?
Preferred faction/Alliance: Allied Powers (a.k.a. "the Triple Entente") or Central Powers (a.k.a. "the Triple Alliance")
Preferred planes (from the list of host’s planes): 1 or 2 Allied, 1 or 2 Central

By providing your email you agree that the email will be on an email chain with other Zoom Wings Pilots

As a matter of courtesy, Pilots will not share someone else’s email outside the group unless they obtain permission from the email’s owner.

Assignments:
Due to a limited number of “seats” (8), and airplanes the host has, seats and plane assignments will be on a first-come (earliest email), first-served basis.
You cannot reserve an airplane more than one week in advance.
The list of available airplanes is limited to the host's airplane inventory.

Missions:
Most missions are scout dogfights
Some two seaters can be flown
Occasionally, we have a balloon busting mission.
Occasionally, we have a downed pilot rescue mission.
Sometimes, we have a “Celebrity Death Match”
Special missions as described via email.
Due to the limitations of camera presentation, we don’t usually have observation missions nor bombing missions
Rules:
We Use the full set of Rules ("Full Rules Booklet") included in the box Set "WW1 Wings of Glory – Rules and Accessories Pack", product ID WGF002A
Alternatively, if you only have the rules from a Duel Pack, those should be sufficient:

- This booklet supplements and extends the "Full Rules Booklet" (and adds more examples and clarifications)
- Until the House Rules have been reformatted, House rules will be used when only club members (OLD Pilots) are flying.
