    Default OTT-BYM Mission 10: Good People * Don't Shoot! - 12 Dec 1916 by malachi

Noel Manley was a bit nervous on this patrol having just recently returned to the squadron from hospital following his close escape after being shot down by AA in No Man’s Land. He’d kept the jitters at bay in the mess with the aid of alcohol, and mostly hidden from the men, although at times an ever-hardening lump of anxiety seemed to be growing in his chest. This coastal patrol didn’t alleviate any of those feelings, but he was heartened by the company of the nearby Asbury and their new Sopwith Pups. The agility was amazing – if only they had the speed of their SPADs!

Suddenly Asbury dove on an unsuspecting tandem below. Manley also closed the gap to investigate as the observer fired wildly at Asbury.

Both groups quickly realized their mistake but that didn’t prevent an exchange of angry gestures. The Pups returned to altitude to serve as a wary escort to the Belgian Strutter as they followed the coast.

The Pups seize the opportunity to attack but the unfortunate Asbury is in poor position trailing the Belgian plane now spiraling out of control. Asbury takes the brunt of the attack but gives Krallen additional concerns to add to his jammed gun. Manley misses from long range.

Well that was short and sweet for the entente. Nice AAR and some super planes.

Lucky for Manly that he crashed landed on the beach. He could top up his tan whilst waiting collection.

Thanks, Gary. It was a strange fight for sure. The Germans were fortunate to spread their damage around between Krallen and Kuttner, and nothing serious such as fire. Kuttner is a fire expert and I don't think he's ever used the skill (knock on wood). Another 1/4" north and Manley would have had a water landing, but he rolled so well he probably would have just been snorkeling.

Well played Chris, what a first pass by the Eagles ! Super mat and some further stiff action but it was definitely Krallen's day !

    Onkel says:

Outstanding ! You certainly saw those Tommy's on their way and everyone made it back in time for a liquid lunch

ObLtn Karl Krallen is awarded the Iron Cross 1st class for his fifth & sixth victories for the Fatherland & Kaiser

PM me his ace skill when you have selected one

    Danke Onkel.

I was certain my Eagles were going to collide when playing those first 3 moves with the AI, but instead they ended up with a lethal volley.

    PM'd you my skill choice.

    Great job, Chris.

(I see now why you were afraid we'd start calling you Chuck)

    Perfect mat for this scenario.

Unfortunately "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to malachi again."

Another good game and AAR. Congrats on Krallen making Ace. Cheers.

Rep will need to wait a bit.

Nice AAR and result, great scenery, planes really stand out.

What a brutal fight, your Bulldogs need some lessons in combined tactics as well as a better survival instinct. Once Astbury left for home Manley was just Eagle meat. 3 on 1

As I found, flying into a tight formation of Albatros isn't going to make your day a happy one. Oh well there's always tomorrow.

Mat looks great bye the way.
    Cheers

Sorry Rep gun still jammed, I need a bigger mallet.

    Thanks, John
Manley was pretty unlucky, having plotted moves that turned him east at the worst possible time. I plotted the Eagles before his subsequent attempt to run the gauntlet and randomized his westbound heading by rolling a D6. He almost got home free but the left-rudder jam sealed it. He seems like a nice fellow though, I had more empathy for him than that heartless Krallen
