For our Wednesday night stoush we did a bombing mission where a lone B17 (the Memphis Belle) escorted by a pair of P47's had the task of bombing a distant target and making it home. Opposing them was an FW190 piloted by Aidan, and a 109K piloted by Baxter. Mark flew the dark P47, Doug (Windy Jack) the silver one, and Wayne (Biggles Downunder had the B17.
It has been quite a while since our last WWII game and we had all forgotten how potent those WWII fighters can be at close range. After a passing shot at the B17, both Germans zeroed in on Mark's P47 but did not count on Aidan's FW190 and the P47 going down in that firing pass! Aidan respawned in a 110 but Mark had to wait until Baxter went down before he respawned in another 110 (No respawns for the allied planes). That did not take long because those 50 cals are pretty lethal.
The 110's continued to hammer the B17 until being unable to turn to bomb the target Memphis Belle went down.
This was not in the script! We thought the game would go on much longer and that the bomber with 50 damage points would be a lot harder to kill. This turned out to be a great game.
