Thread: WOT?? No wings??!!

    Default WOT?? No wings??!!

Had a belated Christmas present today, a trip in a Jet Ranger helicopter. My first time in a chopper, and despite my misgivings about flying anything without wings, and the deeply-held belief that if God had meant us to fly he would have given everyone Tiger Moths, I must say a Jolly Good Time was had by all.

Exhibit one, the Ranger taking off

Exhibit two, me and the management before the flight

Exhibit three, me and the driver

Probably more comfortable ride than my jollies in Police & Army helo's, Steve, enjoyed them all though.
My junior management managed her first flight on honeymoon in Hawaii so probably had better scenery than both of us !

    Sharp looking chopper there, Steve.
    Looks like a good time.

My kids (and even my eldest granddaughter!) got to have several trips when the Canadian Coast Guard took them to visit their mother (my ex) at the Bamfield Light Station off the west cost of Vancouver Island.
I have yet to experience a helicopter ride myself ...

M25 motorway is, as far as I remember, the masterpiece of Crowley demon mentioned in Good Omens novel, right? Well, ours is called D1

I missed out on one a few years back.

The International MRI Conference rotates between Europe, the USA and Asia, and I attended the one in Berlin, paid for by the Hospital Trust.
Two years later, the next one was the USA, and it was scheduled in Hawaii.
I went to see my boss, who told me in no uncertain terms to forget it - they wouldn't stump up for that!

6 months later, I was chatting to the Consultant who holds the purse strings for ISMRM in the Trust, and he expressed great surprise that no one had asked to go - the funding had been available!
The Medical Physicist who attended showed me the photographs from her helicopter ride around the Big Island -
