Flight Club 06/'22 at Entoyment, Poole

The sixth meeting of Flight Club is set to go ahead on Sunday 26th June 2022 at Entoyment Poole for yet more WGF mayhem.

The usual crowd have already been notified but if you're a forum member that wants to come and join the fun then get your name down & let me know via PM if you want attend.
This is not an Entoyment event ie you cannot book a place to play via the shop. I will manage the table - Cost to cover the tables will be three quid a head on the day to be paid to flash on arrival please. (it's going up a quid per table but hopefully we'll cover it)

This is not a demo/participation like we'd usually put on at an event but a day for us to get into some more involved gaming and play some bigger, longer, WW1 scenario type games than we may usually get at a show.

I will update an idea of content nearer the time but, as they usually go down well, there will be one hour dogfights in the mix and maybe an opportunity to fly something you don't have or don't use too often.

If anyone has a scenario they'd like to put on for this event please PM me.

For those not familiar with the location the address is:
Entoyment, Unit 2, Fleetsbridge Business Centre, Poole BH17 7AF; opens at 10.00, take-off shortly after that, and we're usually spent by 17.00 if not before.
There's good parking, they are able to provide hot food & plenty of tea; there is a Tesco store not far away (within walking distance) if you want something different. It also has a fuel station attached.

Counting down for this now. Looking at a couple of one hour dogfight scenario's - early war to get our eye in I expect & a later war effort which may involve randomly drawn ace skills, still need a couple of scenarios yet but we'll get there.
Waiting to confirm a couple but if all of us make it on the day we'll have a bakers dozen !

Starting with a one hour dogfight: Hit me Bébé, one more time ! Early war N.11 & others v Eindeckers.
Scenario 1: Coasting along the Adriatic. AH Lohner's with Macchi & Phonix D.I escort attempt to sink a couple of coasters v any Italian opposition we have !
Dogfight 2: Skilful Flyer's.. Each pilot receives a randomly dealt ace skill from a limited selection. Camels v Fok D.VII & SSW D.III
Scenario 2: Harry Tate Hate... RE8's bombing city with twin rear guns, escorted by Camels v Pfalz D.IIIa defending.

As with all best laid plans - they may not survive first contact with the enemy.

Another Flight Club done - Big thanks to all who made it, particularly those who travelled long distance, to join the fun and make it what it is. Good to see you all again, I'm sure the next will come before the year's out.
I will put some pics up soon and try to decipher my notes, I think Baz took Top Gun with 4 Kills (two by collision) beating Tim into second place but only 'cos one of his 4 was an own goal by collision!

The gathering of the clans..

We opened with Eindeckers v Nieuport 11's, a N.16 & a pair of Bristol Scouts .. (Make up your own jokes!) This is after first contact

Justin catches Iain jammed in the foreground, Chris catches me as I slip through the melee.. as Tim overlapping Chris hammers Gary


Gary's machine falls away flaming - Kill to Tim, Chris realises it could have been his.. Doh !


Meanwhile on the far side of the pitch the other side of the table tussle.

(Rob's green Fokker; Hobz's cdl Fokker face off Baz's green N.11 & Ajay's smoking cdl Bristol)

Gun cleared, Iain gives me some love... He'll pay for that !


See, I said he'd pay ! (I was lucky Andy was jammed)

Over t'other side the fight goes on - Andy trades with Rob at close range


Baz turns in and completes the job taking Rob down - Kill to Baz


Following round, Baz faces Hobz with his jammed gun... One way trade !


He survives the onslaught but not the subsequent collision.. Down goes Hobz - 2nd kill to Baz !


I pick up some close range +1 loving from Tim.. Justin gets in behind Andy


Things had been fine up to that point ! 2nd kill to Tim


Chris had snuck over t'other side ... catching Baz at close range


Set ablaze, down goes Baz ! Kill to Chris


Justin chased off Chris with a long range effort but ended up trading head on with Tim !


Tim reverses onto Justin's tail as Ajay catches Andy on the turn


More lead follows the first - Andy is set on fire by Ajay's close range burst


Too much for Justin's Bébé - 3rd kill to Tim !


Chris and Tim head off Ajay as Andy slips past (card)


Chris misses Tim's signal to turn after their foe and they collide 4th Kill to Tim (o.g.)


We called it there as we had well over run the hour. Andy drew his remaining fire damage & his machine succumbed to the flames - Kill to Ajay !


Ajay was well pleased - he didn't die first (thanks Gary), he survived the game and he got a kill to boot !

Coasting along the Adriatic.

AH Lohner's with Phonix D.I escorts attempt to sink a couple of coasters v any opposition the Italian's can offer.

I pilot the Italian Lohner as escort top the coasters as they crawl along the coast. You can just see the Phonix running in and the Italian air force scrambling to protect us..


Justin piloting the Macchi is first in as he started on the coastline


I run head on into Andy as he turns in to the attack...


We manage to avoid a collision somehow but I meet Sean in an A-H Lohner, his gunner is on the case and he drops my gunner, who jammed his weapon in the exchange...This could be a short lonely flight ! Fire comes in from all angles


Andy gets on Gary in the silver Hanriot, I take a further battering from Iain, Justin continues to batter Sean with Rob sandwiching him.


Gary in the silver bird has spotted Tim slipping along the edge and rushes in to protect the coasters - well done that man !
Sean and I are still getting worked over by our respective enemies


Too much for both of us ! I'm breaking out the paddle - Kill to Iain, Sean's doing the same - Kill to Justin


Tim and Gary swap lead close up & Tim declares bombing - he has a coaster on toast it would appear..


But maybe Gary did put him off as Tim inexplicably swerves right, releases half his load and scatters deck chairs across the island's promenade !


Tim gathers himself and aims for the next coaster but the hounds are upon him !


It's a near miss - a few plates sprung on the bow of the coaster; Baz exchanges fire with Tim's gunner


Baz adopts ramming speed again and ploughs into Tim !


Tim's escape became somewhat hampered by the double rudder damage


The coasters are saved - there is nothing left but to but bug out ..

Justin fixes his jam; Baz reverses wondering where Tim went..; Hobz shoots up Gary; Rob in the white M.5 gets on Andy's tail; Ajay gets on Chris top left ... Iain, top right, is well placed to leg it !

Ajay bags Chris Kill to Ajay ! Rob is still on Andy's case in the background..


Down goes Andy ! - Kill to Rob !


Hobz becomes the whipping boy but takes it like a champ


He turns on his tormentors and promptly smashes into Ajay.. He did not survive 2nd Kill to Ajay !


We called it a day there as lunch was calling and the pilots needed to refuel, so no kill shot taken.
Iain did leg it and was the only survivor from the A-H attack, well done mate !

NB: The Lohners are ex-Christmas decs by SORA, repainted by me; the bases are unofficial one and a half 'normal' cards wide suggested by Andrea and generously supplied to me by Chris (Malachi).

Each pilot receives a randomly dealt ace skill from a limited selection. 6 Camels v 5 Fok D.VII's

First passes:

Top to bottom- Camels: Ajay, Rob, Baz, Justin, Gary, Dave v D.VII's Sean, Iain, Hobz, Andy & Tim.

Following reversals etc - Gary bumps into Hobz (yellow), who gets shot at by Justin, as Tim (red) shoots up Gary ! Andy (green) will have got some attention from Baz


Justin (#U) keeps on Hobz (yellow), Baz slides past Andy(green) as he turns and overlaps Iain (Goering). I'm out of frame right, the other chaps close in.


Here's me, Tim had Acrobatic skill and lost me after his reversal - at least I wounded him in the first pass !


Baz switches to the left to take on Sean; Justin dogs Hobz, even as Iain takes a pot shot at him & Gary does his best to evade ! In the background I turn past Tim, having taken a burst as he turned in..


Justin pummels Hobz at close range as Iain does the same to him, Ajay does his best to intervene by shooting up Iain - jamming his guns in the process, as does Iain !


Gary throws in a reversal and trades punches with Hobz as he turns on him.. Justin's card between Iain & Ajay not as shown. Sean, wounded, gets some loving from Baz in the background


Gary & Hobz are MAD ! Mutually assured destruction Kill to each.


Ajay dodges away as Iain reverses but is tagged by Tim. Baz & Justin light up Andy in the background


And Andy is done for ! Kill to Justin


Tim tags Baz next as Iain passes behind him, Sean gets a long range shot at Rob, Dave appears bottom right, racing to get back in the fight


Having jammed his gun Tim turns away but meets Dave turning in, Baz joins the fun even as Sean tags him and Ajay does the same to Sean !


Tim ducks past me as Dave gets onto Iain, seems he caused Baz to break off from Tim though. Ajay & Sean are jammed and Rob may have got a shot in on Sean


I keep pouring it into Iain but he gets a last pop at Ajay - the last card of the game


And it's just enough ! Down goes Ajay - Kill to Iain


Consensus was: The ace skills didn't have too great an effect on the game.
Acrobatic Pilot; Daredevil; Lucky Pilot; Strong Constitution; Bullet Checker; Weapon Specialist; Fire Expert; Stuntman; Firm Hand; Itchy Trigger Finger; Perfect Aim; Sniper; Sharp Eye; Sneak Attack were the cards used but two were not used due to departing players.

Tommy lines up for kick off - RE8's L-R Ajay, Baz, Justin, Gary; Camels Dave & Iain. The Pfalz circle the city.


Here they are: On the left is Tim in his Blue max paint job, next is Rob with stripy tail, then Hobz with yellow tail, Sean with green tail & Andy with black tail.


After first moves Iain wonders where I went.. I'm behind you !


I got him covered as Andy launches into the formation - me, use you as bait.. nahh !


I overlap Andy and he exchanges lead with Justin


Iain breaks left and shoots up Rob, Andy realises he's really in the wrong place and Tim takes on Gary but takes a wound for his troubles. On t'other side Ajay trades with Hobz


Dave gets sandwiched between Tim, head on at close range & Rob from behind at long. Andy gets more love from Gary's rear guns Tim's guns jam (phew)


On t'other side Hobz and Sean mix it up with Ajay & Baz


I selflessly throw myself between Andy & Gary's Harry Tate - at least that's what I told them !
Gary brasses up Tim and takes a shot from Rob.


More of the same.. second hit by Andy wounds me - should get a for this ! Rob sets Iain on fire.. not good !


Jams abound on the far side, Gary gets tagged by Hobz, now wounded


Jams abound this side too, thankfully, Justin declares he is bombing. Looks like the Hun were distracted sufficiently !


Gary draws his first fire damage card.. Bugger ! Kill to Rob.


Justin dumps his eggs into the barracks area of the city - not a direct hit but still a damaging blow. At least he made it to the drop !


On t'other side Sean slides into Baz's blindspot as Hobz keeps the gunner occupied !


Having taken another shot from Rob I give him the slip and try to evade the others who are still jammed


We run out of room & I collide with Andy..


I'm downed - Kill to Andy !


On t'other side - beneath the mass of range rulers is Hobz's card. Sean overlaps (possibly collides with) Gary and joins the fun as Rob rushes to do the same.


Hobz is done - well done in fact... with a total of 34 damage points - he had 13 before the last fusillade at +1
21 points with +1's. Impressive !! That must be some kinda record. Kill to Baz !


Ajay scores a near miss as Justin escorts him in. Rob realises his error as he gets lit up


Baz is on the money though and scores a direct hit on the rail tunnel - Mission accomplished !
The foes still beat on each other.


Down goes Rob ! Kill to Iain, 3rd of the day !


Bravely defended, the bomber boys did us proud - getting to target at these events is almost unheard of, getting bombs on target is unprecedented; scoring a direct hit is near miraculous !

Indeed it was!

Only managed to get shot down once (serves me right for flying a bomber - which was actually more like a wind-driven chicken coop than a fighting machine!).

It was great to see all the 'Entoyment' crowd again, plus, of course, the distance travellers.
A good time was had by all.
