    Default OTT BYM Mission 9 “The Death of Chivalry” 5 December 1916 {Stumptonian}

    Dawn is breaking as a lone Halberstadt D.III flies toward the aerodrome of 57th Squadron RFC

    Adler Ltn Dietrich Oelker has decided to honour two airmen downed at the end of November by members of his Jasta.
    News had only just reached the mess the preceding day that RE.8 Pilot Lindsay Moore and Observer AM1 Patrick Francis had both been killed in separate incidents.

    Although Oelker himself was not party to their destruction he felt a need to honour the fallen.
    He planned to drop a wreath on the airfield and get back to base before the morning sorties started.
    He did not think that Obltn Wienand would miss the Halberstadt since the unit had been using Albatros D.IIs for a while now.

    He tossed the wreath and saw it flutter to the ground pretty close to his intended target.

    Oelker turns and thinks about getting back to the Adler airfield for some breakfast.

    Giesebrecht keeps his streak alive with his sixth in as many sorties.
    The new Albatros D.III seems to be a definite improvement over the D.II and he will reluctantly send it back with his evaluation.

    He hopes that the Adler will receive more soon.

    ======================================
    An interesting mission, Gary.
    When the ‘wreath dropping plane’ went down behind enemy lines with the dreaded Boom! I thought Oelker may have flown his last mission.
    He and his opponent, Shaw, who went down in flames, each came through only missing one scenario, yet poor Billinge, who was FRTB-W (and landed safely!) is out for six.

    C&W rolls can certainly skew the expectations.

    Well done Pete, some exemplary shooting wins the day ! Great action and AAR again.

    Onkel says:

    Well, that was a costly gesture on Oelker's part, we shall be having words on his return. The good news is that he apparently made it out of the wreck & we expect he'll make it home soon. Giesebrecht's rampage on the Bulldog's continues and Hübner is a probable ace ! Nothing much left of the new British type but much to celebrate still.

    Enjoyed reading this, good flow on the AAR and descriptive pictures. Kind dice rolls in the tally helped with a narrow win to the Adler.

    The tally rolling is a game on its own, but Shaw was lucky and avoided KIA by just one pip. The big question is - will Hubner break his kill-drought and catch his wingman's scoring in this campaign with just 3 missions left?

    Cheers for the well earned victory.

    That's a great AAR and a deserved vistory for the Adlers, although not without cost. Rep inbound.

    Glad you enjoyed the Mission. I think it is a good idea to fly the wreath dropping plane as a older machine, because the Albatros D.II and D.III are just too good for the Pups and Nieuports.

    By the way love the colour scheme on your Albatros D.III. Is it an official Ares or a re-paint?

    I can't take any credit for it - it came from Clipper's sale a year or two back.

    Nice one Pete, shame about poor Oelker going down in flames for doing a good deed but at least he made it back.

    Your deadly duo continue to rule the skies over your section of the lines, well done to them. It was a very noticeable difference between the A shooting guns and the B ones and the Sopwiths better handling didn't seem to help at all.
    C'est la guerre

    Bye the way, I meant to ask have you changed your lights over the table the pictures looked different this time, or maybe my eyesight is changing.

    Sniper skills did their work today! Well done Eagles. Hübner must be quite jealous of Giesebrecht's scoring. I feel your pain. I tried to get Konrad Dahl his 10th voctory several times to no avail.
