Guys how do you call that red semicircle area limited by your fire arc and the ruler?
Guys how do you call that red semicircle area limited by your fire arc and the ruler?
arc of fire?
arc of fire indicator?
fire angle?
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Effective Area, maybe? I'd use "killbox" except it's neither a box nor a guaranteed kill, just that you have to keep them IN the box to give them DP's toward the kill. Hmmm... maybe killzone?
In the Navy, the call was "On for line. On for range. Fire for effect!"
Not short.
I don't have anything short that encompasses both. 'Within range and arc' is as short as I can grasp at the moment.

Thanks guys, i was asking because i am working on a rule reminder and i have to repeat "within the fire arc & ruler", and i was looking for a simple term that would replace it.
A "strike zone" maybe?
A "fire zone" Because you are allowed to fire into that zone ... ?

Arguably to be within the arc of fire you must be in range but for clarity 'within range & arc' is about as short as you can get, as Mike says.
In ground terms it would be the 'beaten zone', not sure there's an air equivalent.

It forms a cone, could use that but it's another term to explain.
Could you avoid the words and use a diagram instead? Or something like (> and then define it somewhere below?
Hmmm... 'Firing sector' would be an accurate blend of 'disc sector' and the idea of 'within range and arc'. You would need to explain the term, unfortunately, or provide a glossary.
It might catch on in our community, if we all start using it?

How about "within your theta"? θ
In this game, you cannot fire at all when the target is not in the area. That may help to create a term. I think it deserves a term.
Well... You can fire, it just doesn't have any effect, within the rules.
If you are using house rules on ammo limits, at least I impose the penalty of wasted ammo if someone measures a shot and it is 'out of range'. This penalizes the trigger happy pilots.
There could be a house rule for very long range 'lucky' shot, or a desperation shot. This would change the 'firing sector'.

The latest rules state you can fire on a target if it is in your "fire zone". Page 8. If it isn't, you cannot fire.
But i like your rule better, it makes it more fun i believe.
No, i just used it to find out if it works. The rules stick with within the arc and range.
