Thread: Colours 2022 - Newbury - Saturday 10th September

  1. #1

    Default Colours 2022 - Newbury - Saturday 10th September

Noticed this on Newbury & Reading Wargames Society site:

"We took the tough decision to hold back in 2021 for the safety of our members and you the public.

We are therefore pleased to tell you that Colours 2022 is on!

It will be at our usual venue (Newbury Racecourse) and a one day event. Keep the date Saturday 10th September 2022 free and join us, some great traders, demo games and of course the bring and buy. Price of entry to be confirmed but we'd hope to keep it as low as possible...."

    Entry is Free !

    Event location:
Grandstand, Newbury Racecourse, Berkshire RG14 7NZ Opening times is usually 10.00-16.00
    https://nrwc.org.uk/colours-2022

Three floors of loveliness - It's well worth going to.

And we have a table again !

    Here's the last outing in 2019: https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...019-At-Newbury

Note: In spite of our recent national loss this event will carry on

That would be great Baz, it can get busy and it's a good show if you've not been before.

I'm 50/50 for this just now. If all goes according to plan I'll have just got back from a naval exercise so I'd be OK, but if there's any delays in the at-sea programme then I won't be back until Sunday night

Quote from their website: We've decided to make entry FREE. Yes FREE. Why have we decided to do this?

    - We've all missed shows over the last couple of years and we think a few have been lost and wont come back. Shows work when they have a great reputation and the balance of atttendees to traders is right. No punters and the trade wont come.

This is nearly upon us, I have received the following info to disseminate:
We are on table D08 on the second (top floor) in pretty much the same location as we usually are for those that have been before. We are billed as the Wings of Glory Aerodrome, please wear the shirt is you posses one; flying helmets are optional but wearing of them is encouraged !
I'm looking to set up the usual training type games for introducing and training new pilots & having short games amongst ourselves and any experienced pilots who'd like to have a go, much like we did at Beachhead.
We'll be using my kit for gaming, mats etc.

The venue will be unlocked and available for set up from 7:15am on Saturday morning and the show will open at 10:00am and close at 5:00pm.
I may not be there before 09:00 depending on take off & traffic but will try to be as early as I can. Those of you likely to be there before me please secure the table and as many of the chairs you can hang on to !
The coffee shop on the ground floor will be open from 8:00am for the sale of coffee and bacon rolls. Other refreshments will be available during show opening times.

It looks like there is no parking out on the course as there has been in the past so carparks near the Grandstand are the place to go.
The suggested postcode for Sat Navs is: RG14 7PN they tell me but look for Car Park 4 or 2, they're closer.
Note: The Grandstand and available car parks cannot be accessed from the western end (Racecourse Rd) due to a security barrier across the road.

If you have an under cloth for the table and if anyone has a second damage deck caddy that would be helpful. I have the WoG mats etc

Default The Show Will Go On.

Checked the site this a.m. - This is their update:

"We are sad to hear the Queen has died. However, we have made the difficult decision that Colours should go on. We have people travelling from overseas and its simply not fair to cancel at short notice. So, the show goes on. Long live the King."

I feel duty bound to attend and will do so but quite understand if anyone feels they have to drop out. If those who have signed up are able please let me know one way or the other. Cheers Dave.
