Default British Author on Future of the UK

Interesting article -- I just came back from 3 weeks in Scotland and much of this article resonates with what I saw and experienced. I would be interested in what my UK colleagues think about this...

I don't disagree with all he said but it's an opinion piece by a political journo producing something from his paternity leave.
I did wonder what he'd make of a tour of the USA having read this 'So long as an American president has carried the Electoral College, it is irrelevant whether they were rejected by the voters in a given state because, at root, the voters are Americans first...' But, thankfully, we don't discuss politics on this forum.

First sentence had me in hysterics... no other country - close to its own dissolution etc. Has he seen America recently?

As to the rest of it, I hope it was written on really soft paper and not Izal medicated.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion however, so he can write what he likes.

I think lots of it is just opinionated tosh though.

By the way, I wonder which 2 wars we have lost? Vietnam? Oh no, America lost that one...

With all due respect to all parties concerned, I believe this thread is violating the "prime directive" of this group concerning no discussion of religion or politics. I would recommend terminating this thread. Just my opinion. Regards to all.

You have a good point. Nothing wrong with some open discussion but if it gets out of hand we will close it.

Actually, you're the one that will need to do the treading

I think this has probably run its course, those who felt strongly have had a chance to voice their thought, so seems a good time to call matters to a dignified end whilst we are all still friends, and before anyone draws the boom card.
Should you wish, I am sure there are other outlets for such discussions.
Thank you everyone for your input.
