I once read somewhere on the forum about an AA house rule that was based on dropping the artillery counter (or was it some other object?) onto the table from a height. Can anyone point me at that thread?
Have others tried out such trick?

I might have missed that thread. However... Why?
It is pretty hard to use AA as it is, without randomizing the shot.

It would be exclusively for solo scenarios: High density of AA fire, many planes on the table, friend and foe. I find the usual way of handling this by assuming a hit probability and running some randomizer somewhat dry.
I did some experiments, it looks promising but I'm not there yet. Either the object bounces too much and then.. see Tim's reply...or it does not bounce at all.
Don't recall seeing such a thread Fab but way long ago I emptied my hole puncher & scattered the collected chads in a line across a table to simulate a para drop, replacing each with a figure. Maybe someone did something similar for the AA tokens. I'd use the solitaire AA rules personally, turning cards would be a lot quicker than chucking loads of counters about & picking them up again.

We played a game once where we put 18 or so AAA guns on the map and the bomber had to avoid as many as he could before bombing his target. It was quite challenging.
You did make me think of something else with your thread. Is there an Osprey book called Great AA Aces of WWI? They must have had a gun crew or two who had outstanding successes.
Tell me about! I seem to remember going down in a flaming wreck!!
