Historicon game 6
French Day Bombers
Game #6 A daytime behind the lines bombing raid by a flighjt of Breguets is intercepted by a flight of Siemen Schuckert D.IIIs and a Fokker D.VI. The bombers have to fly to the target area and return to exit from their edge of the mat.
5 Breguets ve 6 scouts. Fair fight? We will see....
The Breguets keep a tight formation when they spot a flight of Germans ahead between them and the target.
The wide net of German scouts is closing in.
And the battle begins!
The Breguets are built to fight as the Hun are about to find out the hard way.
The net makes contact with it’s school of fish.
Carl takes a little heat as the Breguets can put up a good fight in both directions.
The Breguet formation breaks up but they are past the bulk of the Hun.
The Germans regroup to give chase of the French.
It’s never good to be in the middle of a bomber formation if you are not one of the bombers.
Peter in his Fokker D.VI closes in, but who is really the target?
The first Breguet drops it’s load in the target area.
Three more Breguets nearing the target zone, still harassed by Hun aircraft.
The nimble Schuckerts keep infiltrating the Breguets, nibbling away but not enough to stop them.
More bombs start to fall as all hell breaks loose over the target.
That’s one strange looking cloud the Breguet is hiding behind.
The strange cloud has suddenly lifted. The Breguet pilot is looking for another to hide in.
The Breguets have dropped their eggs and begin their race for home.
One Breguet does it’s best fighting off a pair of Schuckerts.
The French make the turn and line up once clear of the target. They know their return home is still in the hands of the Gods.
The wounded pilot Aidan meets a Hun head on. He feels the controls of his Breguet go limp and the plane begins to descend. He yells back to his observer but there is no answer. Down…down…the ground grows larger until...
One observer is not letting the swirling smoke bother his aim and sends a Schuckert into a death dive.
The remaining four Breguets have only one German between them and a clear sky home. Too bad they are still in range of most of the chasing enemy.
The Breguets again split to try to shake off the Germans. Bob (#9 closest to camera) breaks free and leaves the Hun behind. The other three are still fighting for their lives.
Help has arrived in the form of a SPAD XIII piloted by Aidan. It engages and downs Mike freeing the Breguets to break off.
5 Breguets against 6 Germans. 5 Germans downed and one Breguet does not come home.
Victory to the French!
