Historicon game 3
Heading for Home
In game #3 the Germans scouts were rendezvousing with a Gotha G.I bomber on it’s way back from it’s mission behind the French lines. The French are up looking for the reported bomber and find it and more.
It seems the early planes have a lot of problems. Jammed guns and a dud engine right from the get go.
The Gotha crew hope their little friends can hold off the French long enough so they can get back to German lines at the far end of the mat.
Mike, host of Thursday night’s Table Top Flights, flying a Morane Saulnier P for the first time. (He's never played before, with a Morane Saulnier P, at a Historicon, in 2021, on a Thursday. )
A Morane Saulnier N gets past the German scout screen and into close range of the Gotha.
Two of the German scouts maneuver to get behind the French.
The Gotha makes a break for it as most of the enemy are distracted behind them.
The Eindecker pilot feels the heat when a MS N lights him up.
The chase is on. It’s just a matter of time when the French will catch up.
Unlucky to be on fire but at least the Frenchman has jammed his machine gun.
With no threat behind, the flaming Hun sets a French monoplane on fire.
A pair of Germans try to shield the Gotha (the card on the table) as the French begin to catch up to it.
The closest Frenchman is downed by the Gotha! The German lines are now in sight and within reach.
The French aren’t about to give up that easily. Even though on fire a French Parasol inches closer and closer.
My dear friend Partick isn’t happy. Was it the damage card I gave him or what I said? ;-) 'V' for victory? Half a 'V' for ....so anyway....
Just as the Gotha could feel the friendly lines oh so close, one of his escorts clips his tail. The scout took no damage but the eight it caused on the Gotha sent it into a downward glide it couldn’t recover from.
Once the Gotha was done for the scouts had no reason to risk their lives anymore and headed for home.
A more turn and the Gotha would have made it home but for one of his own.
French Victory!
