Just noticed that on one side of the rulers included in BoB box the half ruler mark is not in the middle at all, it's off by 4 mm. Those included in the WGF box are correct.

We've known this for a while now; it's been posted before, but it's always helpful to mention again, for those who haven't seen the earlier posts.
By the way, what's a "serious game"?

Yeah. I took a pen to the offending side, once I determined there was, at least, one good side.
So, when using the rulers from the BoB Starter Set, players know not to use the 'bad' side.
And, thankfully, I haven't been involved with any games that had money on the line.
PS: Pink slips or 'all the marbles'? Not played any games like that, either.

i went through and checked all my rules and was surprised by the variability. for the most part it wasnt by much, except for the bob rulers that is.
