Thread: William Shatner is to become the world's oldest astronaut.

Default William Shatner is to become the world's oldest astronaut.

William Shatner the 90 year old Canadian actor, who played Captain James Tiberius Kirk in the original series of Star Trek, will become the world's oldest astronaut on October 12th when he flies as part of the crew aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin spaceship.

The previous oldest was American Senator and former astronaut John Glenn, who flew on board the Space Shuttle Discovery's STS-95 mission at an age of 77. The mission took off on 29th October 1998 and lasted nine days. William Shatner's flight will only last ten minutes.

In a way William Shatner is not the first member of the original Star Trek cast to make it into space because apparently the ashes of James Doohan the actor, who player chief engineer Montgomery Scott ("Scotty") , were smuggled aboard the international space station after his death.

Wooohooo! Now two of my former employees will have made it into space!

Edit in: whoops, if we are going to count Doohan, make that three.

Hooray... another flight for the Space Penis... another waste of so many millions that could have been used to help the poor and starving in the world... shameful really.

I'm surprised Shatner got a ticket as he must exceed the carry on weight even without the luggage!

If it is not a secret, may I ask, "Who was your other former employee, who made it into space?".

Buzz Aldrin (for Buzz Aldrin’s Race Into Space, though I admit my advice was to just keep the original Liftoff! title).

So Scotty's not around to "beam" him up...

Hope the rocket flight goes well.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

None of this revisionist stuff: To oldly go where no man has gone before.”

And yes, Shatner didn’t want to say that line (well, with “boldly”) and we had to get Nimoy to do it.
