Thread: SPOTTING FOR ANTI AIRCRAFT GUNS

  1. #1

Default SPOTTING FOR ANTI AIRCRAFT GUNS

Duel between an Aviatik D.I (player Philou) which must visually spot two anti-aircraft batteries defended by a Spad VII (player Monse): rule adapted from the photo recon, the plane stalls less than half a ruler from the target at altitude 2 or less (altitude 3 or less for the photo recon).

1- Philou is an outstanding tactician: the planes start at altitude 3 and during 4 turns of the game, he routs his opponent by systematically avoiding the Spad and the sighting of the two flak guns, even going up to altitude 4 while the Spad and the flak guns are waiting for him at level 2.

2- After a long range shot from the Spad (damage 3), a flak gun is finally spotted by the Aviatik from level 2.

3- New shot from the Spad (damage 2) on the Aviatik.

4- The Aviatik overlaps an artillery token causing no damage.

5- The overlapping of the other artillery token causes to the Aviatik a damage 4 with flame.

6- Successful shot for the Spad on the Aviatik (damage 2 with damaged engine).
The Spad is in pursuit position : it is too much for the Aviatik which makes a misjudgment and exits the mat on the next turn.

I’m a big fan of the plastic flames. Great set of photos.

The Pyrkol and Aerodrome Accessories markers are made of 3 elements that are removed each turn for 3 turns.
Unfortunately, those two companies are now closed.
If you are lucky, you may find them on the Aerodrome market place or on EBay.

The Litko markers are smaller and one piece (you must use the 3 smoke or flame counters to indicate their removal) but can be attached to the peg without removing it thanks to their open attachment ring (unlike the closed ring of the Pyrkol and A.A. markers, which requires the peg to be removed in order to slide the marker in).

Played this today but with a B-firing Hanriot as the defender. The Aviatik managed to do both observations and escape, having taken 8 damage, all from the Hanriot and none from the AA. As the Aviatik pilot my thoughts are that it is too easy to avoid the AA and the pursuing fighter by changing altitude unpredictably. With 3 or 4 AA guns it might be a different challenge...
