It has been a long day with lots of places to explore.
First we visited the Maritime Museum in Canakkale where numerous guns, mines and even a U-boat remnants are very well preserved. The mine layer Nusret replica offers an insight tour with figures in uniforms displayed.

I watched a 90 minute documentary on the Gallipoli Campaign just a couple of days ago; it was on Freeview.

If it crops up again, I'll try to drop a notice here.

After stepping down from Nusret we set sails for Gallipoli peninsula. Our first assignment was the museum built to commemorate the beligerent troops, their actions and hardships they faced.

To my mind the Turks did all they could to pay hommage to all participants of the campaign (of course underlying their own sacrifice).
According to afterwar Atatürk's speach: "All mothers wipe your tears, for your sons who rest in our land are also our sons now".

Then we drove north and then south to see the monuments, the trench lines and cemmentaries placed along the western coast of the peninsula. ANZAC Bay, Helles and the Kilibahtiri stronghold. Stay tuned.Click image for larger version.
