    Default OTT BYM Mission 3 - Help... I need help! - 19 Oct 1916 - malachi

ObLtn Krallen addressed the men standing in front of him as the late afternoon sun sat low on the horizon.
“The Feldluftschiffertruppe have just reported the location of a downed allied aircraft behind enemy lines. The pilot has been seen in the area. There is not much time. Your mission is to retrieve this pilot and return him to the Jasta. Brennen, you and Schnecke will escort Fwbl Esel. Good luck. Bring the prize home to our nest.”

“We shall not fail you, mein herr!” exclaimed Esel.

As their flight approached the enemy lines, it became obvious they were not alone. Closer inspection revealed a trio of Belgian Nieuports guarding the site of the crash.

A figure appears running toward the front of the aircraft. As he rounds the wing, the pilot suddenly stops, confused. Willi has leveled his revolver at the pilot. “Treten Sie ein!” The pilot hesitates. Willi fires a shot over his head, and the pilot hurriedly scrambles into the rear seat despite an obvious shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, Brennen misjudges his opponent and slips left as bullets rake the fuselage. Schnecke continues to try to free the jammed gun.

Krallen eyed Mavery steadily. “Sir, you will be shown every hospitality. However, you were rescued by an enemy plane, and Esel tells me you fired the rear gun at the Belgians. Surely, the English believe you to be a spy.” “Come, join us for schnitzel and schnapps, we have much to discuss.”

This was a fun one, many thanks, Dan for the mission. The cards definitely fell the way of the Eagles, especially the engine damage. The fight was all over the map, and some tough decisions.

    Excellent AAR.

Thanks, Dan, it was a fun romp. This luck can't hold... the Eagles took some heavy shots but they were spread out and not too meaningful, meanwhile got lucky with dealing engine damage and a BOOM.

Quite fanciful and did it on a lark but it was fun. Thanks, Pete. I immediately thought of you as Schnecke stared across the mat literally at the crossroads of going home or chasing a kill.

Nice flowing story Chris, with the twist at the end. Nicely painted DFW with lots of damage shots, luckily for us, most fell the way of the Adlers!

So, let me get this straight....you chaps went into Entente territory to 'rescue' a downed Entente pilot??? Or, was it a downed Entente pilot in Central Powers territory???

    Enquiring minds want to know.

But just be warned, keep this up and we might just land a platoon of infantry and round up your whole jasta!!

Looks like you had a fun game.

From the briefing thread and comments I went with the former, Paul, but the latter would have been easier

But just be warned, keep this up and we might just land a platoon of infantry and round up your whole jasta!!
More than fair Hopefully, we are relocating by train soon.

Looks like you had a fun game.
It was fun to bring out some Belgian N17s and I enjoyed writing up a story, however much it stretched the limits of plausibility.

Excellent game and great AAR. A proud win for the Eagles. Obviously the downed pilot was a double agent (or might well be soon). Loved your Belgian N17s and that DFW CV. Excellent paintjobs.

Well that's a different take on things, Chris, like Paul I too was confused where this action took place as it seems both sides flew into friendly territory in one state or another. Even with your answer to Paul's query it's still none too clear !
Scenics, models, story are all great but I lost any sense of altitude between the planes when it came toward the end.

    Onkel says:

Well done Jugendliche, mission accomplished, and enemy captured, another downed and the rest sent home for an early bath it would appear if not downed but unconfirmed by Schnecke. Plenty to celebrate

My new hero is Fwbl Willi Esel, any man who wears a potty on his head, lands in a ploughed field, taxis through a hedge just to rescue/capture an enemy pilot deserves my hero worship.

Your twist in the tail made me smile, great storyline, and I hope young Willi continues with his winning ways.

Oh - congratulations on the result as well.

Sorry Rep gun jammed, now where's that mallet!

Willi has never been right in the head. Even his mother seemed to indicate that in some of the surviving letters from his time of service.

Much of the OTT fun for me is selecting suitable pictures and working up a story (although, like this one, I often don't know where it's headed from the start). Many of you do this to an amazing degree!
Willi's pic is from windsock datafile 53 on the DFW C.V; it seemed perfect lol.

The mallet finally worked and Rep has been fired in your direction, hope you survive.
