AAR Wright Flight August 14th 2021

A wonderful day to fly the skies! A great pair of games today. In attendance we had rhodie80, Old guy, redcoon2, Skyhawk172, Eric, Chris, Mike, and myself.


First mission was a Gotha Attack! rhodie80 ran the Gotha on a bomber run against England. The rest of us had to shoot them down.


The defense is ready and on the move!


First plane down! The Se5.



The first pass over, the defenders turn around and start pursuit!


A Nieuport 28 goes down!


The bomber box continues it trek!


Now, there is a reason why you shouldn't fly into a bomber box!



First Gotha went down!


Second Gotha down!


A Spad XIII goes down!


Another British plane down!


Third Gotha down!


Fourth Gotha down. The long way!


Fifth Gotha gets off the map and survives! I wish I took a picture!

The sixth Gotha, had a problem to deal with! Does it get off the map or get shot down!

What a battle!!!!!

Second game had six planes in the air. Just a quick Dawn Patrol shot 'em up!



The BOOMS! came out early!



Dual BOOM!



Match ended with Central Powers 2 kills, Entente 1 kill.
Another fun game!

Well done. I have not seen so many Gothas on the table. Number 6 down copped an enormous number of damage too. Great AAR.

We went through the Gotha Booklet that came with the model and did not see that mentioned for Gotha or Caproni. Therefore, to keep the game going we ruled that it was full damage for the day.

The half damage for Giants comes up in the Staaken & HP O/400 rulebooks and are a later release. They also bring up the different fire rules.

Flash, thanks! Found it in the Optional Rules of the Staaken rules booklet.

We don't like arguing rules, we would rather spend our time playing the game. We made a decision and went with it. Worked out fine the way we played it! We had lots of fun!

One other note...all of the Gotha's moved in unison using "Stall" card from start to finish...regular slow straights would've flown them all off the board before much of any combat.

We always use full damage, as we found that otherwise it took too long to finish a game, and often all the Gothas got off the table without any casualties. then again we seldom have enough players to have more than a couple of attackers unless we double up and fly two aircraft each. half damage seems to work better on a big table with more participants such as at Doncaster.

Yes, I agree with you here! We use the full boom, and as Tom posted earlier, moved the Gotha at a slower rate and one still got off the table. Still, a very fun game!
