    Default online wings of war - testers and helpers wanted

    SERVER IS DOWN and is not supported anymore.
    There was some move of copyrights of the game and I didn't start communication with new owners if my activity is still acceptable by them. If someone is interested in this online edition of WoW and is able to find and ask current holder of WoG copyrights I am able to install new server and switch on the server again.
    On the other hand I'm not currently able to support new development of the game (finish statistics, add support of WW2, etc as we planned before).


    !!! A T T E N T I O N !!!
    Server IP was changed September 12th 2011! Please reconfigure server IP in ww.conf.. change
    server=AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD to server=78.102.116.224
    or download client again... the IP address will change again in near future because I'm moving myself to bigger flat, so stay tuned...

    With pleasure I'm announcing new online game based on wings of war concept. This game is accepted by authors and copyright holders (Nexus games)
    We are in beta program now and I would like to find some betatesters and helpers.

    What I need:
    - players who will download current version of application (Java 6 is necessary) and play games with others
    - graphics who could create better images (moves, maps etc)
    - someone with good idea to improve game / user interface
    - translators (my english is not so good and other languages than czech are welcome)
    - someone who will create simple web pages

    Current state:
    game contains full rules (with altitude) of Wings of War I, some rules (last move of immelman) are modified as we used in our gaming group
    3 campaigns are implemented:
    - DeathMatch - only one aviator can win
    - France - battle between Alliance and Germany
    - Testovaci (Testing) - you can fly alone and test user interface, there is no restriction, you can leave map etc..
    GUI is not always very intuitive
    game is not public - registration is required (it is request of nexus games)

    What is in progress:
    - statistics
    - improve notifications (using system tray)

    What will I do next:
    - optional rules (disabling altitude etc)
    - support of Dawn of War rules (I'm not owner of this game and I don't know differences)
    - and your ideas

    HOW - TO

    Okay, Java 6+ is installed. Game is installed. I am guessing I need to have more then one player to play? I don't suppose there are game notes as to how to go about setting up games?

    Did play by email before and liked it very much...fine opportunity to play against people all over the world . Got some work to do now but I try to sign in this afternoon.

    yes, it is testing. there is no limits - you can leave map, you can "dive" under 0 altitude etc..

    Michal,

    I cannot tell you how badly I would like to try this out and help you... but I have so much on my plate right now with getting things together for Origins events, and trying to help with other things on the site, and finishing up my remaining modeling projects and "tutorials" that I could not possibly take on one more thing... especially something as fun and distracting as this would be. I hope playtesting works out for you! I can't wait to see and purchase a finished product!

    It's a very nice program--I love the fact that you can see where a movement card will put you before you commit to it, without the other guy knowing what you're doing.

    I am playing a 3 player death match and have some bugs to report. Shoudl they be reported here or should they go into a PM?

    Namely, we have seemed to stop shooting at each other. some other little things too.

    A lot of the shooting problems have been due to altitude rules.

    I don't think I changed altitude, but that does not mean that no one else did. I could not see any indication of altitude change on the game screen.

    next to each plane are some numbers, what they are mean:

    x, y is coordination on map - point (0, 0) is left upper corner
    h is ALTITUDE in format A B/C (A is level of altitude, B is sublevel and C is sublevels that are needs to climb to next level)
    d is direction/azimut in degrees - 0 is at 12 o'clock, 90 is at 3o'clok, 180 at 6 and 270 at 9

    Flew a couple of matches against Postal_Bob yesterday and we had more fun than a kid in a candy-shop

    Not sure about the altidude rule: as this is very 2-dimensional it is often difficult to take the altitude in account as it's only shown as a number.

    Par that it's awesome

    Immelmanns, Split-S turns, and cards with red lines all affect the altitude.

    This is a French translation. Some of the items will need context to have a good translation. So when you have incorporated them in the game, on testing we will know if they are correct.

    Obviously runtime version problem.

    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: net/skrdla/ww/client/Client (Unsupported major.minor version 50.0)

    I run Java 6 Standard Edition (build 1.6.0_14-b08). It seems to me that I'm almost upto date because Oracle recommands 1.6 Update 23.

    Any hints?

    Hi all,
    new version of client application is available for download. It is on same place as before.

    New features:
    - french translation (thx to Nilliom and AirBucles) => you can switch to french version by changing ww.conf add or replace line locale=en by locale=fr
    - highlights system messages in chat window
    - new notifier in system tray (focus is lost on macs - this feature could be disabled in View menu) that shows bubbles with last action (useful when you work in other windows - browser, etc)
    - small fixes

    I just ran a test and the disabler works! This new version should be much more enjoyable now.

    That´s why I would like to have a feature, that you can turn of the preview were your movement cards will put you.
    Because accidentally flying wrong is one of the thing that make WoW fun.

    There is a feature for turning off the preview. Go into "View" and uncheck "Show Range"

    Hi all,
    new version of client application is available for download. It is on same place as before.

    New features and fixes:
    - italian translation (thx to Attila57)
    - Immelmann is now more restrictive - you must play Straight - Immelmann - Straight (fix in client and server too, old wrong possibly moves are replaced by Straight on server side)
    - you can disable notifier (better fix :-)) and ghost feature
    - engine damage is reset in new game (client fix)

    Here is my first feature request:

    - a visual representation of the cards you draw, like a pop up you see for 5 seconds.
    - a pre game Chat, so you can arrange fights before someone opens a game.
    - Numbers for the minis, as it can get quite confuseing who is flying which plane, if all use the same picture.
    - Put the actual altitude next to the mini on the battlefield.
    - Put small symbols for steep maneuvers, etc in the left bottom corner of the maneuver cards

    these pictures with maneuvers were created only for testing purposes and I'm not graphic designer

    - Numbers for the minis, as it can get quite confuseing who is flying which plane, if all use the same picture.
    - Put the actual altitude next to the mini on the battlefield.
    - Put small symbols for steep maneuvers, etc in the left bottom corner of the maneuver cards
    I second the request for a pregame chat session. Was in a game with Vestifex and Postal_Bob and a few others and there was some confusion about aircraft selection. We ended up with a Albatros III and a V II's vs a Neuport and two Snipes. Perhaps limiting the START button to the person who created the room would help.

    A pregame chat would be good also a visual represetation for smoke and fire for the plane on the board. That way everyone knows who is smoking or on fire without waiting for the prompt and it would look cool.
