The Felixstowe acknowledges the flashed morse code message and uses his radio to signal HQ. HQ requests that an American H16 Curtiss Flying Boat be diverted from its training mission to rescue the Submarine Captain and return him to shore for treatment. The Felixstowe skipper elects to remain in the area to try to protect the transfer operation.

The submarine boasts a single machine gun on the after deck with an almost 270 degree firing arc. The Curtiss (XC deck) has a crew of four with the co-pilot managing a single machine gun with a 90 degree arc from the nose to the right of the plane, as well as having a nose gunner and rear gunner. The Felixstowe (XC Deck) has a crew of 6, the extra two men being beam gunners located behind the wing. All allied guns are B firing. To complete the rescue the Curtis has to land and the bases of the plane and submarine must be no more than half a ruler distance apart. The XO has said that he will remain on the surface for two attempts only and then he will have to dive.

Boom cards will count for half damage rounded up.

The German planes in the mission are two Rumpler 6B float planes using the K deck and having a single machine gun firing forward, and two Hansa Brandenberg W29 mono floatplanes boasting a forward firing A gun and a rear B gun with a 270 degree arc each. The W29's are using the J deck.

There is a furious exchange of fire and one of the W29 monoplanes (flown by Mark) is downed. The submarine gunner is killed and the Felixstowe (flown by Windy Jack) suffers damage as well.

Mark's remaining plane latches onto the Felixstowe's tail (blind spot) and sticks to him like glue. His intense fire causes first smoke then two lots of fire and finally an explosion card is drawn to finish off the Felixstowe.

Meanwhile, the Curtiss (Baxter) has managed to land and take the sick Captain onboard and has taken off heading for home. The submarine has dived.

At first it looks like he might make it but Wayne's two planes are closing in and cause significant damage to the Curtiss's rudder where it could not turn left or right and has to head further away from home before making a run for it. Inevitably with 3 enemy planes to contend with the Curtiss goes down too.

Result - A resounding victory for the German side.

Mark's W29 was shot down by the submarine and suffered 8 points of damage and the boom card.
Mark's Rumpler suffered 10 points of damage.
Biggles Downunder's W29 took 10 points of damage.
Biggles Downunder's Rumpler only took 1 point of damage.

Windy Jack's Felixstowe took 21 points of damage plus a boom card.
Baxter's Curtiss H16 took 33 points of damage.

Each flying boat started out with a health of 29 points. German planes had 15 points health each. It was a long game, lasting almost 2 hours but it was fun and different to use those balsa planes.

Great - really good to see the naval aircraft of both sides in action. Interesting scenario and I'm impressed by the pic of the Rumpler 6B float plane, which I assume is photoshopped. Skillful that - very nice. REP inbound and thanks for sharing
