I am working on Fokker D VII in 1:144 scale. Here are some progres photos. I printed it on 160gsm paper.

I realy like it, especialy the thickness of the struts compared to the official models.

Beautiful! Did you the struts and undercarriage in wood?

Thank you. I was affraid if paper model will look good next to the official one, but I love it. Especialy because I paid a full atention to made the thickness of all parts to the scale, and that is why it looks and feels more delicate to my eyes. Will see if it will be durable enougth to play with it, though. No wood or other materials on this model, just paper. Struts, undercarridge and edges of the wings are soaked with superglue to withstand the play. Hull has no formers and is stuffed with pieces of paper napkin with PVA glue to make the hull rigid enougth for handling.

Watch out, paper is susceptible to fire and water --> recommended house rules: No cigars, no beer for paper pilots
Again, congratulations for your excellent model.

Reasons for scratchbuild? There are Zio Prudenzio Eindeckers available, i was thinking of doing one myself.

Zio´s Eindeckers are fine but, while recoloring,I found out that shape of the fuselage seems little off so I decided to make it from scratch. I have 3d model of E.III almost finished. I will post my finished templates here.

I have plans for few more planes to fill gaps after out of stock Ares model in our colection: Morane Saulnier N, Airco DH2, Siemens-Schuckert D.III, Halberstadt D.III, Albatros D.II and Sopwith Triplane.

Interesting. What software do you use to design them?

Peter, the detail on your models is stunning. You should do a “how to” on your excellent D.VII builds. The painting is magnificent.

If these are card models, aren’t they pre-printed?

  28. #28

I do not know exactly what do you mean by pre-printed. They are coloured templates created by Zio Prudenzio. I print it myself.

Berthold was test build, so I did not change much and basicly built it as is, just adding some details to machinegun and engine:

But I edited and retextured Lauman in some areas and add weathering and dirt around the engine and such.

My next plane - Fokker E.III - will be created from scratch, including creation of 3d model, witch will be unfolded and textured to paper template:

Hi friends, another Fokker D.VII. I did not want to build another one right now, plenty of other planes to do for my colection. But this is birthday present for fellow player. It is fictional color scheme I made for him. He is musician and it ispired the note theme.

I don't usually look in the Paper Card Models folder, but I am glad I did today. Those models are incredible (in the true sense of the word). I would not have believed that they were paper if I had seen them somewhere else, and not in this thread.
    Well done.

Really fantastic. Probably the best looking models for our game that I've seen. Weathering is perfect. As suggested, l'd love to see some partially completed "in progress" build pics.

Thank you very much. I do not have much "in progres" pics beside this one. Next build I will take more. The proces was well described and documented by Mike (OldGuy59) builds.

Cool! How do you get the top wing and struts all lined up and glued properly?

  43. #43

    Default

I will take step by strep photos with another build. My procedure od D.VII is this:

1.Glue lower wing to the fuselage
2.Glue interplane struts on lower wing with pva glue. Let the pva glue cure a little but not completly, so the struts holds its position, but can by adjusted a bit if needed.
3.Glue upper wing with pva glue. With pva glue you have enough time to line up the wings before the glue sets. Let the pva cure completly.
4.Fix the struts joints with super glue. The wings are now fixed in position.
5.Glue cabane struts one by one with pva glue, adjust its length if neede so both ends of the struts ends in right places
6.Fix cabane struts with super glue. With all struts in place the wings are now firm and withstand handling during the game without problem

I tried to build Berthold´s plane in 1:350 scale for game In clouds of Glory. It is a crude and fast build, just to test if I am able to pull it and to have something to try out the game.

I did not bougth them - Files for Berthold and Lauman (and few other planes) are here: https://www.kendar.org/zioprudenzio/fok-air.html. You can download them for free.

You can buy many other planes on ecardmodels ( https://ecardmodels.com/vendors/scissors-planes for example, they are 1/100 but you can easily scale them down)
