Thread: Split-S/overdive question for new players

Default Split-S/overdive question for new players

    Hi

I am sure this has come up before but I am having trouble finding it. In normal play a player can elect (or accidentally) to play two steep manuever cards in a row and this will take an A damage card.

To perform a Split-S or overdive it needs stall and reversal cards to be played consecutively which in a lot of cases (there are some aircraft with stall as a non-steep) should therefore require a damage card to be drawn, but in the majority of games or examples I have seen this is not mentioned.

Is there a reason behind this?

    Thanks

Yep, the 'reversal' card is not a steep. The over dive is a specified exception to the rule of steep/steep.
There is no such thing as a 'non steep stall card' - if it is not marked as a steep it is not a stall - it is therefore not a card to be used in an overdive or split S as they require a stall to be played and would then be illegal moves.
The over dive also requires a straight which can also be played if on fire without penalty.

The Immelmann Turn (reversal) is not a steep move, so the split-S does not break the 'two consecutive steep cards' rule. The overdive is a special combination of moves permitted on page 15 of the rulebook (with 2 slight amendments on the FAQs list) and so it does not receive a penalty for 'two consecutive steep cards'.

    Thanks for the clarification
