Thread: Paint and Glue miniatures

    Default Paint and Glue miniatures

Has anyone come across this provider of 3D printed items? There are a number of WWI 1/144 aircraft.

    https://www.paintandglue.co.uk/wwi-aircraft

I might check out one or two if no-one has had experience of them.

I've not seen these before - good find!

They seem competitively priced; wonder what the quality and customer service is like?

Interesting find Edward. Have to give them a try - thanks for sharing

Nice find but I am not sure about these. The Be2c would be a good addition but there seems to be something solid in front of the cockpit that should not be there?

Another miniature source to add to the Wings of Linen wiki. Thanks!

    The Sopwith Pup is atrocious.
So how many books are in your personal library?

Good spot Edward. Prices are good compared to Shapeways although as Robert says, some of the models aren't great. I notice that he uses other people's designs which I have seen offered as .stl files for home printing on other websites such as Thingiverse and Wargaming3D, so I am assuming he has obtained commercial licences from the original designers.

I’m getting four different ones to see what they are like ‘in the flesh’. I avoided the Pup as clearly problematic. I’m getting a DH-2, Be-2c, Halberstadt D.II and N.17 as I can compare them against Shapeways. I’ll take comparison photos after I get them and post them here.

I've added them all to the Wings of Linen wiki. It'll be interesting to see how they come out. It looks like all the WWI designs were credited to Captain_Ahab_62.

I bet he had a whale of a time designing those

I've not bought any of these yet, but there is quite a good review of the BE2c models on Storm of Steel https://youtu.be/0wYNTeaGEjE

I've been close to buying some of the vehicles from there in the past but never quite got round to it. I've seen plenty of favourable reviews though of the tanks, and the customer service seems to get good feedback. Some people have said that he sometimes sends any failed prints to them to use as wrecks.

Also worth keeping an eye on ROC Works as they teased an Albatros that's coming soon. They also indicated on Facebook they have other WW1 aircraft in the pipeline.... https://roc-works.co.uk/

Yes , they do look like another source, especially for here in UK, but need to see what they like in the flesh, but the dh2 could be a useful addition

Still awaiting my physical copies but I found a YouTube review here of the 1/144th scale BE2c https://youtu.be/0wYNTeaGEjE.

Paint & Glue models received this morning.

    Nieuport 17 (Ł3.00)
    Airco DH.2 (Ł4.00)
    RAF BE.IIc [sic] (Ł5.00)
    Halberstadt D.II (Ł4.00)

Postage within the UK was Ł3.85.

General views. Grey material, propellers not included, not as finely detailed as Shapeways, so for example struts are generally bulkier. They are recognisable as the aircraft they represent. Photos with Shapeways equivalents below.

    1. N.17 (note the Shapeways example is an RFC version hence the wing mounted Lewis)

    Conclusions:

    Which are better?
The Shapeways ones are more detailed and better (but more expensive).

Will I paint the P&G ones up?
    Yes.

Will I use the P&G ones?
If they paint up OK, probably where I need a lot of machines for a scenario. The P&G ones are recognisably the same machines.

    Will I buy more?
if they paint up OK, if I know I am only likely to use a machine once and/or need one quickly then I may buy more (The Shapeways postage to the UK is very high and I am only buying when there is an offer on, so maybe once a year).

    Other points
I asked the owner of P&G about the Sopwith Pup model (see earlier in thread) and he realised that the picture on the website is a WIP not the final model and he’ll change it.

Hope this helps and/or is of interest.

    Thanks for that review, Edward.

I look forward to seeing photos of your painted-up minis.

Yes me too. The price is attractive, but I shall wait to see how they paint up before I consider buying. I'll probably also wait to see what other aircraft types they bring out. Many thanks for the review.

Thanks for the 1:1 comparison! That really shows the differences well. The P&G ones look serviceable. (I wonder what the "Glue" in the name refers to?)

Is there any scalloping in the wings? While a lot of plane models greatly exaggerate the "dip between the ribs", I think it's nice if there is some of it visible.

There’s no real scalloping on the P&G model - using the Be-2 as the example I hope this pic shows the difference:

Seems very cheap (which makes a change)... nice playing pieces, not sure they are ‘model’ quality. Waiting with interest to see the painted versions.

Thanks for the comparison! Sometimes the photo lighting doesn't show the scalloping and other details, sometimes it's just not there.

Any painted piccies of these? And how is the material...grainy like Shapeways?
