Thread: Where are they?

  1. #1

    Default Where are they?

A small AAR for our Battle of coral sea campaign ( google translate)
    Here the french version
    https://lesnerviens.1fr1.net/t847-mi...la-flotte#8445

A seaplane, escorted by a hunter, is on a reconnaissance mission to spot the enemy fleet.
He must cross the entire map (2m) perform his recce mission (4+ on a D6) and come back (to see)
    He is attacked by hunters.

If the seaplane survives, the winners will have an advantage when attacking the aircraft carriers (in-flight patrol)

Kawanishi H8K for the Japanese escorted by a Zero / 3 F4F in attack

Sunderland shorts for the allies escorted by F4F / 3 Zeros

Each time the fighters fire (with damage) on the seaplane, a D12 is rolled to find out which crew member is hit. It takes 3 shots at a crew member to eliminate that crew member.

If one of the pilots is eliminated, the seaplane will only fly at reduced speed
IF a machine gunner is injured: his machine gun only fires at a 5+
If a machine gunner is eliminated, the machine gun will no longer fire until the end of the game
If The Navigator is hit the recce mission roll becomes 5+
If the radio is hit the recce mission roll becomes 5+
If the navigator and the radio are eliminated, the seaplane absolutely must return to its base.
If the seaplane descended before returning to its base and its radio or navigator is still alive it may attempt to send a radio message to a 4+ before crashing into the sea.

    History
    Japanese
At 8:16 a.m. on May 5, TF 17 joined TF 11 and TF 44 590 km south of Guadalcanal. At about the same time, four F4F Wildcat fighters from the USS Yorktown intercepted a reconnaissance Kawanishi Type 97 based in the Shortland Islands and shot it down 20 km from the TF 11. The pilot did not have time to transmit. report before crashing, but noticing that it was not returning to its base, the Japanese correctly assumed that it had been shot down by an aircraft based on an aircraft carrier.

    US
On May 2, the Tulagi invading fleet, commanded by Rear Admiral Kiyohide Shima, was spotted by an American aircraft based in Australia.

    US Mission
To my surprise, despite its 42 points, Sunderland did not last long against the firepower of the zeros. There was one Zero too many I think, the F4f couldn't do much and the seaplane crashed into the sea before it could accomplish its mission.

    Japanese Mission:
I removed one of the attackers. The kawanishi (36 points), escorted by a zero is therefore faced with 2 F4F.
The Japanese seaplane will resist better than the Sunderland, the firepower of the F4F not equaling that of the zeros and the plane in less has rebalanced the forces.
Jiromi, emeritus pilot of the zero, knew how to preserve and attract towards him the shots of the US pilots. He had to give up the fight, his plane in a poor state. Despite everything, the Kawanishi continued on her way and managed to spot the US fleet. Pursued by Danny and Mann's F4F, he managed to reach his base

recently went to the aircraft museum in Colindale, London. Couldn't believe the size of the Sunderland. It is an absolute monster of a plane

Great game scenario, the planes look good but I like the scale of the ships, they look suitably small and a long way below the planes because if it. Do you know what scale they are?
