Thread: Back in the Room

    Default Back in the Room

Finally we're back in the room. A handful of us met up at Entoyment last night to recommence hostilities !
This is a posed shot from their FB page of one of the games we played - I got the photo from the FK.8 but didn't get off the table.

Good to see the chaps once more and to meet Lee (Gangleader147) from the play by PM games, we had a great time blowing lumps off each other.

    Roll on next week.

A little action from the Italian front - Lee was chasing Hobz from recon as I stalked him in the background

We could only close to within a range ruler if masked, so it was very easy.

Awesome to see people able to safely get back to playing.

Hosting my first gaming get together tonight. All my friends and I have been fully vaccinated for a month or so now - so it's show time! Sadly, WoG is not on the agenda.

Default Back at it again !

We had our second evening back in the room last night and there were enough of us to have to use two tables.

First game I teamed with Lee (gangleader147) and we took on Andy (Sauerkraut) & Carl (Frag Thief). They flew Dr.1's against my SE5 (Soden) and Lee's Sopwith Snipe.
Lee managed to drop Carl before I got my phone out, which I did when we collided We couldn't explain it either !

We got back on target and I took down Andy in a brutal close range exchange as he turned across me

Me and Carl then took on a pair of SE5a's with the Richthofen brothers in Albatros D.III's. Having diced with our own opponents the fighting pairs merged..

We battled hard, the outcome decided by a collision that I just managed to survive

Then we played a bomber game, Hobz (yellow peril) piloted a HP O/400, I raced to meet him from the other end of the table to cover his escape with my Dolphin; Andy & Lee moved to intercept with a Pfalz D.III and Fokker E.V respectively.
I manage to get behind them both as they caught up with Hobz, Andy got in a great shooting position but suffered gun jams that ruined his chances. Lee covered him nicely by blocking my shots and taking them himself..! A noble sacrifice.
I managed a few shots on Andy before Hobz managed to get to escape, at which point Andy reversed and we exchanged close range blows again..

The last game was 1916, Andy (Scherlochnumber1) flew a DH.2, Lee and Iain in N.11's versus Andy in a captured N.11 (Leffers), Richard in a Fokker E.III and me in a Fokker D.III...
Early on Richard managed to drop Andy's DH.2 (cleared before I realised) as I managed to survive a close pass with Lee and drop his N.11 in flames as Iain in the background felt decidedly lonely

Iain led us a merry dance and got shots on all I think, though hampered buy gun jams (thankfully) and things got tight on occasion.. Here's Richard firing into the mess we made !

Another great evenings entertainment at Entoyment and I ended with a bag of 7 kills for the evening so it doesn't get much better than that as a way to celebrate 11 years on the forum !

I noticed whilst I was in the shop that Peter has acquired all the new releases from Ares on the shelves - RAP, Duel packs & mats - if anyone is looking for them.

We had our third evening back in the room last night, just four of us made it this time out, myself, Lee (Gangleader147) as featured above, Andy B (scherlocknumber1) and Iain (Chianti Raider).
Altitude wasn't played, Booms are half start damage rounded up and we tried out jams on one gun.
The first effort we thought it might help the three of us playing the play by PM game if we had a go with the machines we'll be using in that game... It didn't. Lee couldn't bomb the target and both me and Andy got shot down !
We then paired up and had a scout scrap. Lee flew a captured camel & I fielded a Rumpler D.II against Iain's Camel and Andy's Brisfit.
It didn't end well for the German side - my scout was scrapped when caught between the Camel & Brisfit - the fire they started finished me off in the next move. They went on to knock Lee down.

Next game was a Belgian recon - Iain took on the RE8, Andy took Olieslagers Camel... Lee & I took on Albatros D.Va's.
We chased them hard, Lee was taken down in the pursuit, I avenged his loss by knocking out Andy - the right hand group are the +1's
    Name: IMG_20210602_195244319.jpg
Views: 376
Size: 76.2 KB

I then chased down Iain's RE8 who had a lengthy detour due to rudder damage but got him in the end after much manoeuvring

Size: 79.8 KB

The next game was on the Italian front - Lee and I took Aviatik's versus the Italian Hanriot's
You've already seen part of the story from Lee - his first exchange with Iain resulted in them both getting a boom card & a subsequent collision with Andy finished Lee off when he pulled a 10..
I managed to avenge him by downing both Iain and Andy
    Name: IMG_20210602_204453265.jpg
Views: 359
Size: 82.3 KB

In the final match up Andy & Iain ran some USAS against me and Lee's Pfalz's - It wasn't going great when Andy turned across the bow of my Pfalz XII as I straightened out of an Immelmann and it went from bad to worse !

    Pfalz D.XII: 17 health; Boom 9, shots 5, 1 Wound, Collision 4

Still, another fun night of gaming had, it's good to be back in the fray.

I feel for you Lee. That was harsh. If its any consolation, I taught my seven year old grandson how to play, last Monday. He picked up the basics very quickly, so we decided to try a game for real. I took a Halberstadt DIII and he had a Spad VII. He manoeuvered onto my flank and took his first ever long range shot at me. And yes, you've guessed it, I drew the boom card. He was over the moon. Reckon I have a long term playing partner now, so that is the best outcome of all

As luck would have it only two of us could make it for last nights meeting so Iain (Chianti Warrior) were left to our own devices.
Boom cards are played as half start damage rounded up.

We started off with a two hander against a balloon protected by three AA guns operated using the solitaire rules (A deck special damage = C deck card applied). I flew a captured N.17, Iain took the Albatros D.III (Blue Maus)
Using incendiaries I got a couple of bursts in to the gasbag before Iain set about it, causing 7 fires as we made our second pass, then we collided and the balloon exploded catching us both in the blast zone - I'm happy to say we both survived the encounter, though Iain copped a packet from an AA gun.

Iain kept the Blue Maus for the next game and went up against my SPAD VII. I won the die roll and bounced him - the exchanges were brutal as you can see and finally he caught me on a turn at long range with another 5..

Size: 61.2 KB

Next game we went a little earlier - Iain opted for a French N.11 which I matched with my captured N.11 (Leffers). A turning, twisting scrap during which I took a bit of a beating but I managed to whittle him down with some +1 efforts (2nd line), finally catching him with a beam attack (directional, not technological ! )

After getting a brew we were off to the Italian Front, Iain opted for Baracca's N.17 & I took up a Phoenix D.I. he got in some good hits but he could not beat the Phoenix rising !
    Name: IMG_20210609_195955904.jpg
Views: 311
Size: 73.3 KB

Staying on that front I pitched my Aviatik up against his Baracca's SPAD XIII - This was a hard fought battle, involving a collision he had the better end of, but I managed to eventually knock him off with a long range 4 as he turned across me.

The final match up of the the night saw my Alb D.II taking on Iain's Baracca N.17, another gritty contest that Baracca lost in the end, it really wasn't his night.

Last nights meeting saw me, Iain (Chianti Warrior), Hobz (Yellow Peril) & Lee (Gangleader147) take to the air.
Explosions are half start damage rounded up.

The first scenario pitched me in my Halberstadt D.II defending a balloon with flak gun defences (using solitaire rules) against the other chaps in a mixture of machines.
Hobz (Yellow Peril), armed with incendiaries copped a packet from the flak before he got close.. drawing the A card with special damage he drew a 10 on the resultant C deck
    Name: IMG_20210616_184353460.jpg
Views: 270
Size: 92.8 KB

I got a couple of shots in on the others and Hobz re-spawned but before we could really get to grips Iain & Lee chucked a load of nothing at the balloon (13 0's !!) before Iain managed the kill shot - Boom ! The three of us at half ruler survived the conflagration but took stiff damage from the explosion
    Name: IMG_20210616_190212736.jpg
Views: 268
Size: 77.4 KB

    The worm turns:
I teamed up with Hobz and we took a pair of Fokker Dr.1's to take on Iain & Lee in their Camel's (McLaren & Proctor respectively).
We won the toss and bounced them but my Voss could not escape the attentions of the Camels and fell quickly to the team effort, Iain again taking the glory shot.
    Name: IMG_20210616_192741073.jpg

That left Hobz up against it with his LvR but he gained a kill taking out Iain in a mutual destruction head to head.

Size: 65.7 KB

We then went on for a tandem mix up.
Sticking to our teams I flanked Hobz's Halberstdat CL.II with my Hannover CL.IIIa against Iain's Strutter & Lee's Harry Tate.
Hobz didn't make it, falling to Lee's guns - A cards were fire & a flight error.

That left me on my own, I had been jousting with Iain and after killing his gunner I finally managed to take out his Strutter with a close range +1 burst into his tail

Our final match up saw me escorting Hobz's Halberstadt CL.II with my Albatros D.Va as he made a recon run across the table length against Iain & lee's SE5a's (McCudden & Dallas respectively)
Hobz nipped through the gap they left and got to the target area where they caught up to him - he got his pics and ran for home but was hunted down despite my efforts to interfere and he was downed by Iain.

Four of us last night, Andy (sherlocknumber1), Iain (Chianti Warrior), Hobz (Yellow Peril). Whilst I fetched a cuppa the chaps decided on a late war encounter, Iain & Hobz were Entente, me & Andy were German.
Andy tabled Stark's Fokker D.VII so as I haven't flown one for a while I plucked out my 'patriotic' repaint to put up against Ian's SE5a & Hobz's Camel.
I faced Hobz to begin with but our fights eventually drifted together and Andy's machine was the first to fall. He survived a fire but the five from Hobz finished him off,
    Name: IMG_20210623_183934651.jpg
Views: 228
Size: 93.5 KB

That left me with two to get. After much manoeuvring I caught up with Hobz, the boom (half points+) set the rot the 2+1 finished him off.
    Name: IMG_20210623_184710306.jpg
Views: 225
Size: 78.3 KB

I then wore out Ian with +1's (second line), he'd already been 'boomed' by Andy earlier in the game
    Name: IMG_20210623_185351539.jpg
Views: 219
Size: 104.4 KB

The second game was a recon - Iain took a Harry Tate, escorted by Hobz in a Nieuport 16, both me and Andy chased them about with Albatros D.II's.
Hobz got stuck in protecting his charge but a wrong turn did for him. The marker in the frame was on the location for recon
    Name: IMG_20210623_192058911.jpg
Views: 218
Size: 98.0 KB

Iain had got the pics and was running for home by the time we'd disentangled ourselves from Hobz. We managed to cut the corner and worked him over between us - the 5+1 took him down. I was one point off destruction !
    Name: IMG_20210623_193211854.jpg
Views: 232
Size: 80.9 KB

Andy chose to have a tandem clash as he wanted to exercise his Rumpler's. Iain and Hobz took us on with Breguet. Quick and hard to kill with A guns in the back.. It was another mixed battle with passing shots on the other pair as they presented themselves. Andy dropping Hobz's gunner helped the cause greatly and I managed to run alongside him & knock him down.
    Name: IMG_20210623_200701606.jpg
Views: 223
Size: 90.8 KB

We then went after Iain - he and Andy managed to trade shots to the death !
I escaped by the skin of my teeth again - Hobz's had worked me over hard.
    Name: IMG_20210623_201628370.jpg
Views: 224
