Default a few games with family

I visited my parents for a few days last weekend and we got in 3 WGF games I didn't get a ton of photos but we had fun. I lobbied for altitude rules but they chickened out.

Mom and Pop, part of my Belgian Camel attack.

Similar to one of teaticket's latest games: enemy scouts shot down are worth 2 pts, hangars defended are worth 3 pts, destroyed are worth 4. The Germans also had a machine gun helping out.

@shapeways Daryl's Reduced Aircraft Factory German and Bessoneau hangars provide some cool bits and are easily lifted off the card during maneuvers.

Belgians ended up winning, destroying the MG and 3 hangars.

My folks took time out the next day to welcome their latest great-granddaughter Kate Evangeline Smith.

Next up was a Handley-Page 0/400 vs four Alb D.Va's. My first time piloting a giant in person -- I missed both the primary and secondary targets by a mile.

The game began with the HP taking a short-range burst 4/4 + two smokes = FIRE! They set me alight later in the game also before the BOOM card ended my misery.

The last bout featured 3 French SPAD X.III vs 2 Rumplers. The Rumplers must photo recon the 2 targets and have one or both of them return with photos of both locations for the win. One or two Rumplers returning with photos of 1 location is a draw. Two dead Rumplers is a loss. We rolled for teams but it remained my folks and me in the SPADs vs my brother and his wife for the Germans.

Crazy game with 3 engines damaged and all 3 French pilots wounded. I immel'd on the very last turn to try to shoot my brother's Rumpler before he crossed the lines and his rear gunner wounded me on the first straight so I couldn't shoot after the Immelmann
Draw. The Germans had one surviving Rumpler and one photo.

Fun times. Was good to see everyone and I'm glad they like to play with the toys

Good to see you are able to have visits like this again. You think they would treat you better for bringing all the toys but no. That's family!

Thanks, Iain. One is Cigar Box "New Europe" with thin roads. I got it on the excuse to use on odd-shaped tables like my folks have and it drapes the edge nicely and is easy to transport. The cards slide from under the planes the best of any of my mats. I liked this the best of their options for Western front and thought I might take a Sharpie and turn those roads into trenches but haven't had the nerve.

The other is from McMaster University's archive, a British recon photo near Turenne Crossing 12 Aug, 1917. In the game pic you can see a German aerodrome just left of the target card near the table edge, the tent hangars on one side of the road and a large building and small ones in the small treeline across the road. A large file image can be nabbed from my:
    amazon album
I left the original green ink on it, code = "german huts in woodlot."

You got that right lol. Whenever they had a choice of shots for me or another target: "I'll shoot you, you know what you're doing." Misguided fools!

Taking out your Mom by stabbing her in the head with an orange pen seems a bit rough!

You are one lucky guy to have family that plays Wings.

Only ones I can get to play are my son and two grandsons (who I haven't seen for a year and a half now)

    Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Glad you had a good visit.

Over the holiday we were finally able to have a family reunion including my youngest brother's family from California. I hadn't seen them since Christmas 2019. It was a fun-filled 5 days, board games, good food, fireworks, etc. My youngest beloved niece (age 14, lower right in a pic below) and I have a strong bond. At age 6, she was a stage 4 kidney cancer survivor when they lived here in Louisville, quite a trooper. She and her brother are talented lacrosse players (she was named to the West regional Under Armor all-star team an hour before they left to return to Cali so that was cool). We compete at a silly Hangman app and bond over Netflix' Stranger Things, which I think she has watched 9 times. All-in-all a wonderful reunion and I think everyone enjoyed themselves; well, maybe not the guy running the Wings games

    Limited pics, sorry...

We played a big bomber game and I thought it'd be fun to have two Zeppelin-Staaken tackle 5 SE5a's and a Snipe. The bombers need to hit the two railroad siding targets and RTB. My Schiller only made it halfway to the target and a BOOM card (half damage) finished me off. The swarm made short work of my nephew's Schoeller.

I ran a King Kong game where I decided to take on 5 SPAD V.IIs and Snoopy in his Camel flown by my niece. Kong fought valiantly but to no avail. Normally it works pretty well if planes overlapping Kong's section or the two near him are defined with any part of their base overlapping -- that gives Kong some clout. This time I went with peg-on-section and Kong got blasted. It was a fun time though.

Great to see you having 'family time'.
I haven't seen my kids/grandchildren in Canada since Christmas 2019 either.
Hoping the border will open up before summer's end.

You are so lucky to have family that will play Wings.
SWMBO and her local relatives have no interest.

Love the mat you used for your King Kong scenario! How did you make/acquire it?

Thanks, Wayne. I got the image here on the forum then scanned it for a high-res version which you can download: here

The rules and Kong management board are in the Files section.

Hope you get to see them soon, Pete.

For now they're interested, and indulge me. I try to keep the games interesting but I'm sure there are some eyerolls

It looks like you and your family had a lot of fun! Out of my whole family I was able to convince my wife to play WOG once and that’s it so I’m very jealous that your family not only is willing to play but it looks like they had fun as well. It’s nice to see that people are finally able to to get together with family without having to worry about infecting at risk family members.
