    The Mission part one.

" Ring, Ring, Ring!" F/Sgt Brandon Stark woke from a deep sleep, yawned & stretched & prepared for the Dawn Patrol that he was to lead with the young Aussie 2nd Lt "Dusty" Rhodes as his wingman. Bran was somewhat disgruntled. As the highest scoring Ace in C Flight with 9 Victories he was still only one of 2 Sergeants in the flight & Al Foyle the other had only be with the Flight a very short time. Bran thought "If I can bag my 10th today I will have a chat with Uncle about recommending me for a commission & then I will feel at home with the other officers".

The two British Pilots took off in their De Havilland DH-2's & headed out towards the Trench Line. Perhaps distracted by his thoughts Brandon did not notice 2 German Aircraft approach from a cloud bank. Ltn R Arntzen the senior Pilot in the Eagles Nest due to Wound leave in his CDL Halberstadt & Ltn Thiede in a grey Eindekker E.III were also out early on patrol. Arntzen wiggled his wings & pointed towards the un-suspecting British aircraft.

Bran was rudely awakened from his thoughts when German bullets slammed into his aircraft damaging his rudder.

Before he could take avoiding action another burst caused further damage.

Throwing his plane into an Immleman he returned fire only to have his gun jamb. "Bloody Hell! I am not having a good start to the day" grunted Stark.

To add insult to injury he now came under attack from the grey E.III & could do nothing but try to clear his gun.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 06.jpg  Views: 22  Size: 182.3 KB  ID: 299950" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

The next moment the two aircraft brushed wings but neither suffered any damage.

"Dusty" Rhodes who had turned towards the fighting now got a close burst into Thiede's E.III & the German Pilot received two wounds, blacked out & his Fokker spun into the ground in British territory.

The remaining Aircraft were now scattered as often happens in Aerial fighting as they manoeuvred for advantage.

"Dusty" who really had the bit between his teeth closed on Arntzen's Halberstadt & exchanged fire. He damaged the Germans rudder but the Germans gun jammed!

Meanwhile Bran was slowly closing back towards the action.

"Dusty" continued to harass the Halberstadt & now damaged its rudder.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 14.jpg  Views: 21  Size: 225.4 KB  ID: 299958" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

"Dusty" continued to turn after the German aircraft & now got a close range shot into the cockpit of the Halberstadt wounding the pilot.
Unfortunately I lost this photo during the game as I ran out of battery's but the two damage cards will show in the Butchers Bill!

The German pilot stunned by the bullet continued to fly straight & "Dusty" again punished him.

Finally the wounded pilot flew home nursing his wound. (Flew off the table due to 3 straight cards whilst wounded.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 16.jpg  Views: 21  Size: 206.3 KB  ID: 299960" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

The 2 British pilots then turned for home low on both fuel & ammunition. Bran shook his head glad to make it back with his DH-2 decidedly 2nd Hand. There would be no approaching Uncle today!

    Observation & Comments

Well that started out looking bad for the Bulldogs after being jumped by the old Hun. However once "Dusty" got the E.III the luck changed sides. I think that is the first time in a game when I have dealt 2 wound cards from the one burst. It ended up quite a quick game.

I flew Dusty's plane & all others were controlled by AI via Dave's D8 charts. Altitude was not used.

    VICTORY POINTS:

    2 Aircraft RTB Safely = 2 points
    1 Enemy Shot Down = 2 points
    1 Enemy FRTB-W = 1 point
    TOTAL POINTS = 5 Points

    British Victory!

I plan to Fly Part 2 tomorrow!

    Default AAR--OTT--CYM-- Mission 9 --"Who's stalking who" --gully_raker--PART 2 P.M. Mission

    Pre Mission Activity

    I Rolled a 5 for set up
    The Germans again claimed Initiative!
Rolled 9 on D12 for Arc.

    The Mission

Ltn Reg Fife-Brand the Flight Commander of the Bulldogs C Flight was well & truly chuffed! He had finally made Ace.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR Flight leader.jpg  Views: 14  Size: 34.8 KB  ID: 300044" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

To celebrate he was going to lead the late afternoon Patrol in his new Nieuport 17 & take young James Lanister along as his wingman in DH-2 No.2.
The patrol had been uneventful & they were making their way back towards Bentangles Aerodrome when he became aware of a pair of German Scouts closing in from their Port rear. He waggled his wings & pointed to alert young Lanister of the danger.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 02.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 163.9 KB  ID: 300046" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

He banked around to Starboard to avoid any chance of a collision with the De Havilland & to come at the Huns from the side.
Unfortunately the young pilot did not react quickly enough & came under attack from a Fokker E.III piloted by Ltn Otto Schoenfelder.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 03.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 139.9 KB  ID: 300047" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

Lanister pulled an Immlemann & exchanged shots with the German. His shots went wide but the German's didn't!

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 04.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 180.0 KB  ID: 300048" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

The German Kette Leader Ltn Justis Lotz flying a grey Halbetstadt D.II further punished the young pilot however his gun then jammed..

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 05.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 169.8 KB  ID: 300049" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

Reg had now joined the action & took a snap shot at the Fokker but missed.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 06.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 171.8 KB  ID: 300050" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

Flying closer he used his Ace ability to good purpose & inflicted good damage to the green Fokker.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 07.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 164.2 KB  ID: 300051" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

He tried another long range deflection shot as the Fokker moved away but the shot went wide.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 08.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 157.9 KB  ID: 300052" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

The pilot of the Fokker performed an Immleman & the 2 adversaries exchanged bursts & while Reg caused enough damage to cause the Eindekkers engine to emit black smoke & be forced to return to base due to the damage the plane had suffered, the Germans shots had damaged the Le Rhone engine of the Nieuport & Reg had no option but to return to home base as quickly as possible.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 10.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 160.1 KB  ID: 300054" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

James Lanister had manoeuvred into position to shoot at the damaged Fokker but his inexperience showed as his shots went wide.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 11.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 141.0 KB  ID: 300055" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

He closed on the Fokker but again his shots went wide. "I will have to do more training on the targets back at the 'drome" he grumbled rueing the missed opportunity of bringing down the heavily damaged monoplane. To add to his woes his Lewis had jammed.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 12.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 161.8 KB  ID: 300056" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

Disaster now struck the De Havilland as Ltn. Lotz had banked his Halberstadt around & found the fuel tank of the British aircraft which with a "Bang" spun into the ground just behind the British trenches.

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 13.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 170.3 KB  ID: 300057" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />

Name:	<acronym title=AAR 14.jpg  Views: 15  Size: 151.8 KB  ID: 300058" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" />\

With no British aircraft left flying in the area Ltn. Schoenfelder managed to land his damaged Fokker at the Eagles Nest accompanied by his Kette Leaders Halberstadt.
There would be celebrations in the German's casino tonight with the victory of Ltn. Lotz!

    Comments & Observations

I flew Fife-Brand's Nieuport. All others were by AI using Dave's D8 charts. Altitude was not used.

Just had a look at Part 1 : well done, Baz.

I, too, have never seen two wounds in one draw.

Looking forward to Part Deux tomorrow.

A sharp part one, I thought Bran had had it but Dusty spared his blushes with a cracking response to knock out both Eagles, from the game and the campaign ! I saw the 'ring rust' in that dodgy old Immelmann..
Round 2 was rapidly concluded, mine went that way too. A clear win for the Eagles though.

    Uncle says:

Looks like we squeaked a win on the day but that last turnabout the lines definitely went against us. At least Lanister will make it back before too long.

    Meanwhile across the lines..
Ltn Justus Lotz picks up his pilots badge for his first victory over the Bulldogs. So far the only Eagle with a victory

    Held for Uncle
Just went back & checked that! Douh!

Dunno how I managed to do that as I was using your charts for Bran. Must have grabbed the wrong card.

It's always a good first response to blame someone else, gives you a bit of breathing space.

Rhodes was the man ruling the sky in the morning but the afternoon flight took it on the chin. Still, good enough for a Bulldog victory for the day.

A bloomin' pity that Bran didn't get that one kill, but cheers to Dusty....well done, chap. Drinks in the mess????

Nice one Baz - never mind the rust rings, he was obviously practising for his next Ace skill Anyway I make mistakes in every game now - its called age in my case You get used to it. Or maybe you have already
Some excellent shooting from Dusty and ditto, I don't recall ever having both PW cards out in one short range shot. Sweet
    Have some REP

"Ring Rust"* or not, you pulled out an overall victory, although the taste of Part Two might require some of that Johnny Walker to smooooooth things over

Lanister did exceptionally well to survive that dreaded Boom with just a 2-mission sideline. Speaking of that Johnny Walker, you'd better have it hidden away.

    * had to look that one up.
