Thread: Once an Eagle

  1. #1

    Default Once an Eagle

With an oblique reference to the terrific war novel of the same name by Anton Myrer (which is required reading for all West Point Cadets), I attach an photo of a Bald Eagle that visited my place today. A second one joined this fellow in the tree, but before I could get my phone camera ready the two of them soared out of the tree up river practically right by my face flying in formation -- --thrilling!

Nice to see your National Bird up close like that. Not too fond of ours (Emu).

If Ben Franklin had his way our national bird would have been a turkey -- a description that fits many of our politicians !

The official bird of this website should be an Albatros.

We have ospreys here in the Hudson Valley as well -- here's one that decided to have lunch near me a while back -- but the eagles are special when you see them in flight -- 6 foot wingspans -- and the other day the two were flying in close formation -- it was breath-taking to watch!

There are several ponds in our village so we have a large number of ducks around.

We have a river running through town so we have a wide choice of birdlife on daily view - ducks, little egrets, swans, cormorants, kingfishers - with occasional visiting buzzards and red kytes if we're lucky. The cormorants look imperial eagle-ish when drying their wings !

Sounds like Flash is pre-adapted to be the perfect host for a game of Wingspan!
