Thread: truck movement

    Default truck movement

just downloaded some trucks. Question: what deck, card, thingy do I use for movement?

WW1 trucks, probably 1 "stall" card (any deck, they're all the same) for every 3 aircraft cards.

VERY slow in comparison to planes (even 'slow' planes!)

    any particular deck?

Using a slower X deck would be a good place to start.

Not quite "all" decks are the same, just almost all (or maybe they are all different between speed classifications, but the difference is almost undetectable to the eye, with out close examination. however, for reference:

Often use the width of a ruler each movement phase Iain. ie lay ruler across the front edge of card, move front edge to other side of the ruler.

so having had a look at the Mates decks, for a lorry it looks like an "XB" deck ties in with Dave's width of a ruler movement. Would you still use Tim's "a stall in a 3 card move" or not?? Now, Tanks I think would be even slower, suggests an "XA" deck with or without Tim's stall rule?? Suggestion / ideas welcome. All I've gotta do then is print of the cards

As far as I can make out the average speed of a truck was 15 mph (24 km/h) in WW1. Tanks maybe half that at best. That'll be road speeds so you can probably halve that again, at least, for cross country speeds.
Using a truck card like an aeroplane card on a stall manoeuvre card will give it a stalling aeroplane speed - so, 40-50mph (?)
Stall speed for a Sopwith Camel is 48mph; Albatros D.V just under 50mph.
Once per turn may be OK for trucks on road but still be too quick if cross country, or, for tanks. Using the ruler width/arrow length may work better & reducing use per turn will hopefully provide the crawling speeds required.

so we're looking at 2 movement cards per turn for trucks and tanks - they really will crawl across the board. thanks Dave

The maximum speed of a British Mark IV tank was around 4 mph, and that's on a road, cross country you are looking at only 2-3 mph, or walking speed..

yep. believe it or not the a7v (with a speed of around 10-11 mph [on flat terrain only!]) was the fasted of the lot of ww1.

So it looks like one maneouvre card per turn would represent it better?

Depends on how many times you want to move every single model; three tiny amounts each, every turn, or just one small amount.

One manoeuvre per turn is probably right for tanks.
