Default Caquot Balloon STLs with accessories

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4801951

While this is officially a remix, I have redesigned this from the ground up, reducing the main balloon print time from about 15 hours to around 11 hours.

I have modified it to use the existing WoG Bomber pegs.

The balloon itself has two versions, both split in half for easier printing - Manned and Unmanned so you can choose which angle you want to use.

I updated the basket wires with a solid line for easier attachment to the balloon. The basket itself is updated with sand bags.

I have included 3 bases - neutral, entente, and central powers. If you are flying multiple balloons, I have added a numbering system so that you can add pegs to identify each individual balloon.

Very nice. I imagine it took longer to design than it does to print.

    A wee bit, yes

Question from one who knows nothing about 3d printing. Can you get clear bases printed?

I think this is great by the way and will be a boon for many of us.

This looks amazing. I need to investigate getting "one" printed.

That was my first attempt, to get them clear. I even have clear PLA. Unfortunately, because of how printing works they come out opaque and not clear at all. I had created a modified STL that prints a design like the current bomber bases for anyone who wants to use those but they didn't turn out much better and you can't have any of the damage/numbered detailing on them (I tried that as well and they regularly failed). These seemed to be the best option for consistent quality and not wasting time/materials.

A very helpful engineering friend printed the model's balloon parts. Getting the base to stand up was a bit tricky, so I'll sort that out as a diorama over the standard size for a balloon.
    and here's in printing pix:

Both halves had a cross-mesh to keep its strength, and was printed on a bed (that easily came off).

I have a small amount of tweaking for a tighter seamless join, then I'll figure out how to paint it!
Thank you D. Scott for making this available, really appreciated.

You're very welcome! What printer are you using? That gap is larger than I had.

I'm reliably informed its an Einstart C, from Shining 3D. Its a reliable printer, its even made a small terrain model through it where the filament was partly made of wood fibre.
Nothing a bit of elbow grease can't fix!

OK, it's rough and and never going to win any awards (sorry D. Scott!); but its here to be used, abused, and set on fire.

Rather than sand back the print, I wanted an ugly bulging blimpy look so coated it with a light putty filler that was watered down a couple of times, then buffed it a bit with paper towel when dry. The paint is a camo green primer, as I follow the KISS methodology and the spray can is a reliable form of art to me. I think I've at least achieved the ugly. It now calls out to be put alight to save our eyes from my horrible handiwork.

The stand is a piece of hardwood decking, that happy matches the width of a balloon card. There's a small piece of hard plastic (bottom of a milk container) screwed into the centre to allow a firm grip of the pegs, with a sprinkle of decorations glued on almost dried. Next step, let's see how it burns!

    Hi D. Scott
I should of said in printing, the only small "error" the printer brought up prior to printing was at the fins, where the internal cross-hatch spacing was greater than the distance between the two sides of the thinner part of the fin. No great shakes, as the printer resolved the issue prior to print. This cross-hatch spacing, and type of material, etc. would vary between each person's printer(s), so not something to worry about.
It's also possibly topics for a new sticky as has been suggested.
Yes, I'd really like to have a "perfect" model - and thank you D. Scott - as seen in other parts of the 'drome and they're all very inspiring works of art, so this is all practice for Number 2.
