Thread: Salute 2021 (or is it Salute 2020 redux?)

Exclamation Salute 2021 (or is it Salute 2020 redux?)

New date for Salute this year, which is now 13th November at London Excel, assuming no more lockdowns and they've cleared the Nightingale Hospital out of the way. As Usual hosted by Johnbiggles (John) and Flying Helmut (Tim - subject to confirmation), anyone else who fancies coming along will be most welcome (you might be in line for a free wristband if you help out for the day or part thereof although these will be limited. Sing out if you are likely to attend.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!

I haven't managed to discuss with John - potentially I'm up for it, but we will need helpers coz otherwise it's a tough gig.

The more the merrier Barrie. You just need talk to the punters that show interest, and help those that are new to playing the game. You will probably be able to get a few games in yourself.

Will see nearer the time, depends on trains, company and Beachhead if that's rescheduled.

I'll be there, Ruth is up for it too.
Any suggestions for scenaria/ battles always listened to.
Tim's WWI selection is of course legendary, and between us we have a fairly good selection of WWII early to mid war ETO and Desert.
I believe Salute may still be thinking of the Battle of Britain theme postponed from last year, but we can always dare to be different.

    Lest we forget

    Good to know, John!
It'll be great to see you both again, even though we'll have done so @ Doncaster (with a bit of luck!).

As for choice of game, I'm happy to do Battle of Britain, North African Desert or similar for WW2, or WW1 as required.

It might be an idea to ask our potential helpers/players, to see what they are most comfortable with?

    I agree!

I'd be happier with WW1 - I just don't want to run roughshod over everyone else, and don't want to go against an "Official" theme if it still exists...

Must have been something you said Dave. I had notification that it is still on, November 13th is the date. Passed the details to the Helmut and Johnbiggles this morning, with the list of games and tables.

Intriguing - looked at the Salute plan again and it looks as is they will have a couple of replica WW2 aircraft on show, presumably in keeping with the Battle of Britain theme planned for 2020.

I am having knee replacement surgery on 2nd Sept (hopefully) but should be ok for this. I am happy to not have wristband and can join in if required if I can get there ok, so should be available. What does the wristband do?

It gets you in gratis & early as 'part of the show' !

Ok so will pay for entrance and still be able to join in?

  32. #32

    Default

    Yep.

The Organisers don't mind a larger crew on the table - plus it allows those in the crew to take turns in spending a short while looking around the show and making purchases.

What they DON'T want is a Games Club sending 10 folks in for free, with the intention to only have 2 or 3 manning the table...

Hi Dave, you are there, honest! I was rather thinking you should be wristband number 4 since you are the primary contact with the Warlords.

No. I don't, I think you're confusing me with Steve (Guntruck) he's the one with the contact ! I'll PM you.

John, in order to save you any further confusion between me and Dave, just remember that I am the better looking one

I don't need a wristband as I bought my ticket for Salute 2020 before Covid struck and it is still good for this year.

Right, I've opened up the laptop instead of doing things via smart phone.
Apologies to Steve and Dave for the confusion, apparently the phone is considerably smarter than I am.

I am thinking flash (Dave), Rabscallion (Rob) and camel crew (Iain) for the remaining 3 wristbands, but nothing is set in stone.
Any member of the forum who turns up is welcome to play and doubly welcome if they want to help out, whether for half an hour, half a day or any other length of time.
In the past we have started with WW1, and then gone with what feels right after that.
A bit of Battle of Britain is always fun later in the day and it looks like that is still the theme for the event.
If anyone has HeIIIs, or the Do17s from Ares, please bring them along, the Spitfires and Hurricanes always need more canon fodder.

Finally, we are always open to fresh ideas, if there is something you want try please let us know.

Luftflotte "Helmut" can provide 12 Battle of Britain He111s, plus 6 Do17s and 12 assorted Ju88s, so there's no need to bring your own bombers unless you REALLY want to!

Not going to make this, for a number of reasons, to which the recent double parking of trains in a tunnel has not helped the equation.
Have a great time, look forward to seeing the pics.

Just had a thought, the ulez has expanded recently. Turns out my old 55 plate Landy falls foul. Never mind, still cheeper than the train from the Midlands.

If anyone needs any WW1 models and is going to Salute next weekend...

I've got a pile of redundant shapeways models now, plus a few extra 3D printed models.
I'll give them away for free, first come etc...
A few shapeways SE5's & Dr1's and about 10 others, plus equal number of 3D resin prints.

    Paul
