    Default OTTCYM - Mission 11 - Attack Plane Flash Surprise - 19th Sep 1916

The call had come through shortly after the chaps had finished their breakfast following the Dawn Patrol - Huns strafing the frontline giving the boys a hard time of it. The Bulldogs were closest, the planes were ready and off they rushed.
Bill Foldes took the lead, keeping them low as they approached the area. Cam' Paine to his left, Bobby Pynne to his right; Evan Keel was somewhere off further along the line.
They arrived almost at the perfect point, dropping in behind the Hun as they were busy about their business

Pynne opens up on the pink machine but it seems he has been issued blanks as his gun runs dry.
Not so the gunner of the blue Roland, Ltn Franz Schäpe, who proceeds to blow holes in Foldes' airframe !

Things go from bad to worse as the Nieuports pass the Roland formation ... The driver of the blue whale, Vzfwbl Hartmuth Hemer, puts a close range effort into Pynne's nose wounding him and causing the engine to throw smoke.
Foldes fares no better - taking serious damage from both rear gunners. Keel can only look on in horror as he is out of range and cannot help his comrades.

Keel presses on - his aim is good and the lashes the cockpits with fire injuring both men even as the parabellum jams. A large shadow looms across his machine as Jörke passes close across his nose. He'd left Hengl to deal with the silver Nieuport whilst he tried to save the Roland's.

Great game to play - restricted ammo really fecks me up but bigger pans are coming soon, then we'll see.
3 out of 4 are casualties out until the next go round so my chaps lost - I was flying as Foldes so I really lost out !
The Roland's made it back - probably didn't need the Eagles to come save them, they did fine by themselves

    Thanks for the game Dan.

    Uncle says:

Blimey chaps, we got our arse handed to us that time, we really must do much better in the future.
With our leader out again and our two top scorers with him, it will be a struggle from now on, A/Lt Alan Keye takes command as the longest serving officer.

    Meanwhile across the lines...:

Hans Jörke & Otto Hengl are disappointed with their performance and not being able to chalk up a victory, those Tommi are slippery devils but their tandem colleagues did themselves proud in the Roland's

Ltn Franz Schäpe, wounded in this action, is awarded to Observers badge for his first victory and the Iron Cross 1st class for his continued outstanding service to the Kaiser

Ltn Karl Schilling is awarded the Iron Cross 1st class for his victories and outstanding service to the Kaiser

Fwbl Max Löffler is awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his victories and outstanding service to the Kaiser

A similar fate will to that suffered by my Bulldog adversaries.
Details to follow in a few days or so.

Nicely presented, Dave, but definitely not the result you and 'Uncle' were looking for ...

    Yeah, you ain't kidding !
At least they'll be back in the future. One more mish for the remainder to EndEx.

Just checking the roster and most of the Eagle tandem crews picked up gongs in this action for service & kills

Blimey Dave you were carved up good and proper, what a disaster, I'm viewing this game with more trepidation now than I was when I first read it.

Time is flying on, I didn't realise we were onto Nieuport 17's my 11's have barely seen service yet, I must try and keep up, but my 17's still need painting

N.17's started coming in with the RFC in July '16 John, I phased mine in as I had N.16's to play as well but now need the speed of the .17 to keep up. Not that that helped my chaps much this time out.

I went to them because of the speed and agility of the plane compared to the DH2. Those A gun Albatros are going to be a hard force to go up against.

First out of the trap there Dave but definatly caught in it
Thats got to hurt but never mess with a Roland or worse still 2 .
let the Mess refill its glasses and pilots.

Rolands are pretty tough. I am planning on using the Albatros C.III.

  13. #13

I was going to use Rolands but they are faster than the Nieuport ll's I'm flying, so went with Rumpler Cl's, at least I can catch them, even if I don't know what to do then.

  14. #14

    Unhappy

Ye Gods! That went to Hell in a Basket Dave!
At least all your chaps survived.
One has to truly respect those Roland's with their firing Arc.
I can only hope our lads will fare better in other games.

Oops Well no point in rubbing salt in the wound eh guv. Its all been said, but its war. Nuff said Good solid bash that one. Just didn't go your way. Having had three out of the last four do the same to me I sympathise. Have some soothing rep my friend

Eeek! Having the small ammo pans is tough enough but going up against Rolands and Albatrii, you are a brave man Sir.

A great effort but the Hun out gunned you by far. At least all the boys will fly again.
