Thread: Operation Vengeance

    Default Operation Vengeance

You have seen my brother Bob's (BB401) 1/200 Betty G4M1 (AIM) and perhaps the link to our Blog, but I wanted to sort of flesh out how things have progressed. While we have not made bases or cards yet, we do have our aircraft complete and ready for a Diorama (and eventually combat to try and emulate "Operation Vengeance"). The following are photos similar to Bob's, but my G4M1 conversion is number 323 which is the Betty shot down by "Miss Virginia", P38 147 resulting in mission accomplished and the death of Admiral Yamamoto - the mastermind of the Pearl Harbor attack.

I worked both the Betty and the P38 simultaneously - Gray undersides.

The P38 was an easy paint, along with using silver for spinners and windows. The molded depressions made this easier than you might think and the silver flowed in and then a brushed green over the ridges (of the framing). There was some filling that I did around the nose of the Betty since the mold included windows that in actuality did not exist.

With IJN green applied it was time for decals (also purchased from AIM). Bob and I had to paint the white square on the fuselage.

Masking for the yellow on the edge of the wings and then adding the proper blisters using spare bomb parts obtained from Bob (the same technique he used on Betty 326).

Stretched sprue is used for antenna and for and aft machine guns (the resin is easily pin vise drilled) and I even had left over PE to use for the directional radio loop above the cockpit!

    Nice work!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Nice. I have a feeling Yamamoto is not going to like to see Miss Virginia on it's approach.

Nice looking planes with very specific historical context. Should make an interesting scenario.
