That balloon looks amazing James
Great work, James!
Very nice James. Sad that your beautiful creation will be the center of much destructive attention.

Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
That is beautiful I think I will try one.
Thanks for the kind comments chaps. To be honest, it was really a test model. As I intend to build some more balloons and zeppelin using the same material soon.
Lots of inspiration on this forum!
I glad you like our models (my brother builds also).
I started by gluing together some 20mm pink foam-board. Using a paper balloon model diagram (that I found on this forum), I used it as a template/stencil.
I used a sureform and a razor saw to get the shape, then refined with sureform and various grit sandpaper.
Then, I used a dull blade to engrave the detail.
The fins were made from 10mm pink foam. Secured with wooden pins and Pva glue.
I then used a mix of polyfilla/water and pva to coat the model.
Once dry, I gave it an undercoat of dark yellow. The pre-shade to recessed areas in dark grey.
Final paint was Vallejo paints.
The ropes are made from paper coated with Vallejo earth base texture paint (it has a strong rubbery finished texture).
Added a little card basket. And cut the base myself from Perspex.
Well that is dome excellent scratch building. I may try it someday. Thanks for explaining.
