Default What's on your January workbench? 2021

Valom Dr. I Hans Weiss, Jasta 11 just finished painting and gloss varnished. I am going to apply the decals tomorrow.

I am rather pleased with the result, as I had to lighten the colours up, to consider the darkening through the gloss varnish. Now its almost the same red, dark olive and sky blue tone like the WoG Richthofen Brother's planes.

I love the stage of a Valom kit, when the gloss varnish is applied. The smooth surface and the filter through the varnish turns the model kit in a true WoG game piece. There's only the extra weight of the WoG metal fuselage missing. I will put fishing lead in my next Valom kit, to achieve a more sophisticated feeling. On the other hand, this will turn every crash of the model in a certain disaster.

Thank you! Yes, Valom makes the most detailed 1/144 models and they are surprisingly sturdy, when finished and varnished.

Now the decals are applied. There's still missing the Matt varnish, as I still waiting for a supply shipment.

The Albatros D.III OAW. Together with the D.III Oefag my favourite Albatros type.

Actually the planes were prepared in different states of completion for months and waiting to be finished on the desk. Over the Christmas holidays I had time to finish them, finally.

I think there was an 28w Albatros Ernst Hess and Müller/Maier(?) in the Albatros painting thread long ago.

    No planes in work.

Painted a squad of Ultramarine Terminators for my brother.

Bases are still unpainted and the Blood Angel is from an older painting project a few month before.

For myself working on a few Space Marie Heroes (Series 1).

Blood Angels and a Space Wolve, an Ultramarine and a Deathwing.

    Voilà le soleil d'Austerlitz!

I haven't worked on a Lego MOC (Mine Own Creation) in some time, but I have been acquiring parts for one. Not all the parts are here in the correct color, but I gave it a go. Here's the mess.

Less than two hours later, we have this beauty. The designer of the model said it was the Duesenberg SSJ. I don't know about that, but it does look sharp. (Sharper than my photographs.)

I'm waiting for some blue parts for the trunk/boot and the area behind the doors. Don't anyone suggest paint. That's a dirty word.

    What about blue stickers?

I have built the new LEGO Creator pirat ship with my oldest son on Christmas. We both had a blast. I liked especially, that there weren't any modules. Everything was build up from small bricks - from the parrot to the sails. Even the body was completely made of single bricks. The ship I owned as a kid had a hull made of three big modules.

    Default Early War Additions

I did manage to paint some planes I was given for Christmas and got to finish them over the new years weekend -
Two guns being better than one, I'm beefing up my early war Eindecker's with this Fokker E.IV

Old GW & Airfix acryllic paints used - I was going for a yellower finish but it didn't work out that way in the end - Miscimi decals used

I also added a Fokker D.III to the roster

Some of my last Dom's decals used on this model - Both came from Shapeways - apols to the creators of these fine models but I don't recall who made them.

    Very nice, Dave!

If there was no pilot, and a 'separate' prop, they'll be Kampfflieger.

If there was an integral pilot, and a prop attached to the engine, they'll be Reduced Aircraft Factory.

Shapeways Albatros D.III Oeffag Brumowski, with Valom (Iron Cross)
and miscmini (skull + id) decals.

The Iron Cross are from the D.V kit (blue decal paper*) and detach after 60-75 seconds. The white colour is strong and we'll covering. They react good with Revell Decal Soft.

Miscmini's decals detach after <15 seconds. The white isn't really complete covering and a little bit transparent therefore the white has a barely recognisable tone of rose. The decals are very thin and they lay very flat against the surface. They react also good with the softener.

There is only the matt varnish missing, but the air is too humid outside this evening, so I have to wait until tomorrow.

*Other Valom kits like the Dr.I have a white decal paper. This decals detach after 15 seconds.

They are Daryl's, Tim; he's used the pics on the model's S/Ways page.

Very nice! I have a weakness for Belgian WW1 planes. Where are the decals from?

Reminds me on creating the decals for my Belgian Friedrichshafen G.III.

The camel rondels are reviresco, I'm not sure if I'll stick with them or change to something brighter. The fuselage decals will be fantasy wingmen and homemade.

Then I assume you should have painted the area white, before applying the decals.

Are the colours right ? Who knows anymore but I could achieve a dark brown & dark green shown in a lot of images I looked at so went for that. I wasn't sure at first but I'm pretty happy with how they came out.
Underside is Airfix Matt 65 acrylic; topsides are old GW colours Vermin Fur ? Dark Angel Green ? Miscimi decals.
The stats are similar to an Alb D.II & D.III but the climb range (3) & damage (15) give it an edge.
