Santa got me a 3D printer so I was wondering if anyone out there know of any sites that have progams for ww1 and 2 planes in the appropriate scales.

There are LOADs of 3D models for WW2 and modern types on Thingiverse. Search for Captain_Ahab_62, he has done many, but there are lots available for free there.

WW1 - not so much. I've found very few £d models of WW1 types and they've generally not been that wonderful.
EDIT - just spotted that the good Captain has started doing WW1 types as well
Thanks dave , Know of any ACW naval programs?

Indeed I do

ROC-Works has 1/200, WW2, aircraft, stl files for sale.
What one did you get Paul? I got an Elegoo Saturn the week before Christmas but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I wonder if Mr Manley offers training courses
Blimey, ROC-Works wants enough for his stl files! Unless you need more than 3 of any types you may as well buy from AIM.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I'm slowly collecting STLs here:

I haven't had much luck finding high quality WWI models for resin printing... still hoping that one or more of the Shapeways guys will put some designs up for sale on MyMiniFactory.
I really only do this as hobby, charity donations and to cover netflix each month - I'll have a look into putting a few on there
hmmmmm - $25 per month to put the models on MMF, not sure there would be enough to cover it.
I get a lot of my stl`s from https://www.patreon.com/planeprinter/, for $10 a month you get access to all the files posted and any new ones that come out. Not sure how much it costs to host the files but its good value for the subscriber. The files are designed for the Blood Red Skies stands but easily adaptable for Wings of Glory.
It also gives you an idea for what sort of money you would get in return for your outlay.
Huh, yeah, I'm surprised they dont have a lower tier where they take more of a cut but without the fee, to test the waters. I suppose you could toss up a sample model as a free download and see what kind of traffic it brings before throwing down the $25/mo, but I have no idea what good conversion numbers are for the industry.
Hmm, https://www.wargaming3d.com/ looks promising... it appears that new vender applications are currently on hold, but may be worth reaching out.
There's also the option of putting together a simple little storefront for yourself, or together with a couple other likeminded creators. Etsy, Gumroad, and Patreon would be relatively simple ways to do your own thing, too.

Yeah, bi/triplanes would be a pain with an FDM printer (heated filament), unless the models were designed with multiple parts to be put together.
On the other hand, I don't think printing a biplane would be an issue with an SLA/DLP printer (UV liquid resin), and you'd get results equal to or better than Shapeways. For an extreme example, here's a Caproni set up with auto-supports (ie inefficient) for resin printing:
But yeah, separating parts where it makes sense would definitely make printing easier for a wider potential audience.
Looks like a bizarre rollercoaster
