Thread: game mats

    Default game mats

I'm the proud possessor of the city and countryside mats. Does anybody have any news if the industrial or the no man's land mats are likely to be reprinted. Other than that does any body have any suggestions regards Companies that do same/similar mats that are good to have a look at?

Ares suggest a reprint of the NML in Feb 21 Iain.

some nice looking deep cut mats. Ooh, would a 6 x 3 muddy field layed length ways and my mats layed across it give me a stretch of no man's land in the middles? Hmm, something to think about if February 2021 doesn't work out

Iain, if you like the look of this one at deepcutstudio ask for the Over No Man's Land mat (at least that's what they told me they'd call it). Hopefully they would not charge for the "custom setup fee" since it already exists in their files.

Really great mat Chris. If I didn't have 10 ARES mats and another 8 larger ones I'd love to get one. The only mat I may be getting in the future could be a desert/rough looking one.

Perhaps there is a support group for mat accumulation

I got their Wasteland mat, mostly for Gaslands but it might double for desert.

    Very nice, Iain

The bag included indeed requires a tight roll to fit, I've generally just kept the box and store a couple in them that way. For travel I use the box or I have a Nozlen Jumbo Document Storage Tube model DT4201. They're not cheap and not perfect but the only thing I've found that will hold 3 or 4 of the large mats. The handle slides off too easily but I glued it in place and it is otherwise dandy.

Mine arrived last Friday. Great, ain't it? Had the same problem Iain. Looking at going to Home Despot and getting a 4' x 1" dowel. Put a thin strip of double backed craft tap along the whole stick. Voila! What do you think it replaces mate, four or six ares mats? Just a beautiful mat. Don't be in a hurry if you order one, my order covered Xmas and New Years, you can imagine how long that took........

    Hello Iain,
As you may know the City mat doubles as a backdrop for the Dambuster's scenario, with an overlay of the Möhne and Eder dams. Your post made me think there must be other "overlay" possibilities with the existing game mats.
Some other fliers have incorporated a No-man's land trench network cutting across existing mats as paper overlays. Perhaps also a landing strip to regulation size could be made as an overlay somewhere?
The Ares mats are really well done, and I'm always finding new things in the design of mine!

The design of the Nexus Wings of War mats (East and West sections) was not originally created for Wings of War.
The picture of this landscape was made by Dario Cali for a game created in 1994 by Andrea Angiolino and Gregori Alegi (WOW historical advisor), named “Aces squadron” ("Squadriglia delli assi", which referred to the 91th Italian squadron).

This game was edited in the "Revista Aeronautica", an Italian air force magazine.
The research made for the game were later used for Wings of War.

    Nice information, Monse...

How are the chances to see you once in Prague for a Convention?

My French is not that 100% perfect, but Paul for example speaks it fluent.

For sure, it is not the language that would prevent a visit to Prague for the WoG Convention.
    We all speak English actually.
If I would come to Prague only for games and tournament, the family wouldn’t enjoy this trip !

That water looks great Chris! (and cold!) How did you make it?
(and can I ask what sort of paper/media/plastic is the print on, it looks really good!)

Terry, I did a google earth "clean" map and did a screenshot, then printed and scanned it at 1200dpi. Then cloned sections of the land to blend and cover the Google symbols and navigation tools out. Scanned the water from a board game mat I have then cloned pieces of it by flipping and rotating and piecing together the water (that was a pain). Then used a blur tool on the water's edge (it's not professional but it'll do). Handling the large file overwhelms my poor laptop memory and crashed constantly lol.

It's printed at vistaprint.com, a vinyl indoor banner 6' x 4', no grommets or edge welding. If you subscribe on their site they have frequent sales (teaticket put me onto them). This one was 35% off and $35.50.

You can download the file here, plus a slightly lower altitude one if preferred, and the Manhattan one I copied for King Kong (it would be a 4 x 4). I'll try to do a super-close low altitude one. Not sure how long the files will be up there, depends on my amazon quota. I can't tell what the file size upload limit is here in Files Section but these are probably too large...

I've added a more zoomed-in version of a channel/North Sea mat. High res versions are in an amazon album here: mats

I made it with Seefrosta in mind (their two aerodromes were between Zeebrugge and Ostend), useful for lots of scenarios listed in the book, but could be fun for zeppelin missions also:
    * seaplane battles
    * land plane battles (Albs vs Pups, Camels, Brisfits, SPADs, etc)
    * recon with Rumplers or Halberstadts
    * DH4/DH9 bombing missions from Calais/Dunkerque to Zeebrugge area
    * flying boat patrols, submarines, cargo ships

There's a 40% off sale in US today at vistaprint.com, code = EXCLUSIVE
I usually get a 6' x 4' vinyl indoor mat. The shipping and tax make it a little pricey but looking forward to using this one.
