Thread: malachi's aviation hobby room

    Default malachi's aviation hobby room

I wasn't quite sure where to post this but wanted to share some pics of my office/hobby room.

I've always had an interest in aviation, especially WW1 & WW2. In 1998 when I bought the house I wanted a ceiling fan in this room and found this great P-40 Warhawk fan locally for $25. It's all downhill from there

After collecting lots of Warbirds and Ghosts calendars I started mounting them to foam board and hanging them on the walls. A trip or two to a large annual local art fair provided more prints and drawings. Getting into the Wings games about a year ago rekindled my interest in the history and adding more pics to the walls (I try to limit it to WW1 and WW2 fighters and bombers, some items are period advertising, nose art postcards, etc). There are some gaps I hope to rectify -- Nieuports as well as more Japanese WW2 planes.

1994 air show: my youngest brother, his wife, and I were fortunate enough to attend this local show, which was a great one. Chuck Yeager, Robin Olds, Bud Anderson, and others were there, including Gabby Gabreski whom we met and got to chat with for a bit and got his autograph. I remember he was greatly amused that we were flying planes such as his Thunderbolt online in Air Warrior. The Confederate Air Force was there with many planes, and a demo of the Pearl Harbor attack. Planes: Hurry Home Honey P51, Big Ass Bird P47, Corsair, P38 Lightning, P40 Warhawk, TBF Avenger, B17, B24, B29, B25 and more, including many modern aircraft.

Postcard I got on eBay from Sept 1942 from a husband at Turner Field, GA to his wife here in Louisville.

Munda photo and "security protocols" limiting publication.

    Enjoy

Haha, that's great, Dan. I have a larger one of the green SPAD, it's maybe a doorstop?

That's a used Hindenberg model I got off eBay that will become a Zeppelin (you can see the finished base in front of the model -- thanks to mikejr74 for the files). I also have a Macon/Akron model so hope to make two.

    Nice collection, Chris.

I used to drool over a framed version of the Barrie Clarke Spitfire in the local mall in the '70s/'80s but could not convince TSWMBO* that we must have it in the living room.

It's awesome, Pete. It was the first official poster to go up along with some of the calendar pics.

Wow, what a room. I wish I could put up pictures in my workroom but there's no space as all the walls are lined with book cases, and 'er indoors won't move to a bigger house.

That P40 must have been going a helluva speed when it hit your roof!

Superb Pete, and it's all jaws to do as you fish with. Cursed predictive text. Should have read "yours" and " wish with" sorry!

    Thanks, Chris!

Those are just a few of the poker chips. I have 3 cases of singles of various kinds (Vegas, Reno, and samples of customs from friends). Also have several large sets of customs and casino chips I use for hosting a weekly cash game... that's been on hold since March.

A great looking room, Chris! Do you have a large table in the centre for playing Wings of Glory?

Thanks, David. That room is a clutter of workbench and a couple card tables for the hobby work. It may be big enough for Wings but it's a little small.

The basement has 3 poker tables upon which I can slap a sheet of plywood so plenty of room to play. Also a cluttered mess. It might be a theme.
