Default Official Mitsubishi Ki-15 (C5M) 'Babs' Painting Thread

Here is a Ki-15-I, from the 16th Independent Chutai, China 1939

Base coat is airbrushed Tamiya XF-76 (IJN Grey-Green).

All details are hand painted with Vallejo acrylics. I used Tamiya’s new 1mm tape to mask off the tapered red stripe. I also used it to line out the panels on the canopy. This is a very low detail model, and getting the glass to look good would have been impossible for me without the super fine tape. This is an excellent product for fine detail work.

I used the Clipper method for prepping this Shapeways model. Like others have said, this last batch was very smooth.

I’ve got another in the works in a more IJA camo scheme.

Another Ki-15-I Babs. It sure would be nice to find a Ki-15-II in 1/200!

This guy was base coated by airbrush with Tamiya XF-76 Gray Green (IJN), and the camo was Tamiya XF-68 NATO Brown. The Fuselage stripe was hand painted with Vallejo White, and the Hinomaru are Misc Mini. I made the fine black tail stripes with standard decal paper on a inkjet printer. This is a very low detail model, so I used Tamiya 1mm Masking tape to mask off the squares for the canopy, and then cut some in half to make the longer lines.

I'd love to hear ideas for stats on this plane so I can make up a card.

Thanks guys! I hope you can put them to use. If you need a different camo pattern, or color, just let me know and I’ll publish them. I wish I could find 1/200 ki-15-II’s somewhere.

Diversity is a good thing Peter! I’ve got some Ki-36’s and 51’s in the pipeline too. They are a couple months out.

    Great card Mike.

Yes, I have some to paint but they are not anywhere the top of the queue at the moment.
