Default 3 Generations Game: MvR against 2 Nieuports!

Some of you may remember I used to play with my dad (a military aviation enthusiast and MiG 17 armament mechanic and a superb chess player) once in a blue moon. It had been a kind of therapy for him when he had been recovering from illness. It always worked and we all could see a smile on his face. Well, on Sep. 1 my Mum passed away and now he lives alone. Surprisingly, he is doing really well aginst all odds. Being 80 YO he could ride his bicycle 20+ km a day! And we try to arrange a kind of entertainment for him. Last Saturday he paid us a visit, we had a nice afternoon, but right before his visit I set up a game of WGF upstairs in my gaming zone. Took my 16 YO daughter and we played! She, her dad (myself) and her Grandpa. 3 generations.

It was a recon scenario: I sat in Roland C.II (MvR's plane) and they (my Dad and Michelle) were assigned to fly Nieuports - interceptors flying a CAP over the trenches. Roland's mission was to: 1) start at the shorter edge of the two mats, 2) take a photo of a tiny castle icon on the other side of the trenches (you can find it on the official ARES gaming mat "No Man's Land"). 3) bring the pictures back (leave the battle through the same shorter edge).
    No altitude rules, no collisions.

    We played 2 games.

In the first one my father (the green Nieuport) shot me down with his very first burst! Explosion! Nice!

The Entente team cheered their victory!

    So we started over again.

This time MvR did A LOT better!

I managed to fool the Nieuport pilots

...and, although Manfred was wounded in the meantime - this is the moment I took the much needed photo.

Then I turned to the RIGHT (not left, as they expected, ha!), they both immelmanned and tried to catch me, but to no effect.

On my way back, my rear gunner managed to shot down Michelle's Nieuport in flames!

At the end of the day MvR returned safely to his home base bringing the photos thus accomplishing the recon mission!

    Look at the butcher's tally!

    Oh, we had fun!

Sorry to hear about your mum, my prayers to her
This (or similar) castle was even on old Nexus cards (not mats), fine target. I also like using MvR's Roland and, of course, the group of players. Good you all are still active

Roland is a capable plane indeed. Yes we are active (and healthy) - family gaming in these difficult times is what makes us happier.

It is like a submarine on a long mission - just sailors are your closest relatives (pretty good squad I must say!). So far, so good, hope we are turning bach to "the anchorage of better times".

my condolences for the loss of your mother. im so glad your wings therapy worked. it always amazes me the positive feeling this game generates even though at its base its adversarial. most games we just relish in the moment and then dont or barely keep track of who won or lost.

Looks like a good time was had by all.
I have played the 3-generations game as well, but with me being the grandpa.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Andy.
    Please accept my condolences.

My deepest condolences to you, Wingman.

I'm glad to hear your Dad is getting on OK, and it's good to see him getting stuck in to a family game (and don't you look like him? ).

    Thanks for posting the AAR!

Thank you all for the condolences, my friends.
@Tim: yes, people say I am a - so to say - younger clone of my father.

    Hi Andy.
Firstly, my commiserations on the loss of your mum, secondly how good it is to see the family all enjoying a game together, and your dad at 80 is only 7 years older than I am. I hope I can cycle 20 km a day when I'm his age, because I can't do it now.

It is surprising for me as well. Yesterday, during our evening duel she asked for a bomber again...

What a sensational post! 3GEN. as with the others, so sorry for your loss my friend but also glad to see the life and joy on display in your AAR. May you all have many more such moments both during and after this current difficulty. Stay safe and strong.

Please accept my condolences on the sad loss of your mother, Andrzej.

Thank you for the A.A.R.. It is good that Wings of Glory is something people of different ages can share. When your daughter says she wants to fly a bomber, does that mean she wants a Friedrickschafen or will she settle for a Caproni or a D.H.4?
