An epic project. Most nations in WW2 used similar projects, the Russians well know for their maskirovkas.

Heard of the fake Paris. Britain did the same in WW2 - Starfish sites, as they became known, were large-scale night-time decoys created to simulate burning town & cities to draw off enemy raiders - in all 237 decoys protected 81 towns and cities around the country.
