Probably an identity-theft alert from Lifelock or similar; I get similar from my bank occasionally.

Paul, how/who notified you that the site had been breached? I've seen no indications that he site was hacked and none of the site security programs on the servers have detected anything. If it was an email you received, take a very close look at it to make sure it is from a source you trust. This sounds to me more like a phishing attempt against you.

Thanks for the reassurance Keith, but does serve as a timely reminder for us to stay cyber safe and keep our passwords updated. I am only delighted I remembered what I changed mine to, lol

Yes, changing them on a regular basis is a good thing. Using a pass phrase that is long but easy to remember is really good as well. Something like "MvRflewARedF0kker!" That one is 18 characters, uses upper, lower, numbers, and special characters. It is super strong and super easy to remember. You can actually take that a step further and use it as the base for all of your internet passwords. Just add the site's initials to the end of it. So for this site it could be "MvRflewARedF0kker!WGA" for the Sails site it would be "MvRflewARedF0kker!SGA". That way if you ever forget what password you used for a site, all you have to do is look at the name of the site and there you have it.

Thank you for checking, Keith. I am relieved that you found no sign of a breach.

Hopefully the site does not store actual passwords but the salted hashes of passwords, which makes it a lot harder to abuse even if the list is compromised.

Just to clarify Avast sent me a heads up that my password for Wings had been compromised So as Kieth said it may not have shown on his system.
Still its always good to be alert, esp when your counntry needs them.

As a ps changing my password cocked up my ability to log on for several days, computer kept saying

Thanks for the additional info. As Avast runs on your local computer and does not tie into the site, the compromise had to be local to you. Make sure you take steps to clean up and protect your self beyond just changing the password for this site.

If you (the royal/plural you) use the same password on other sites, it is possible that the compromise was on one of those other sites and Avast knows you use the same PW on here. Always use different passwords for different sites.

As to the sites causing you grief for changing your password, that should not be happening. If you change your email address, it is possible because it can put you in the Awaiting Email Verification usergroup.

The database does not store plain text passwords.
