well talk about being bored and missing the opportunities to fly my planes in anger, its amazing how the brain wanders at times. So I had a new mattress delivered and as I removed the packaging I found 4 corner pads made of a very heavy duty felt type material...
My wife was thinking are they recyclable, I was thinking something else...
5 minutes late we have a Quick template drawn out..
Woo hoo, simply flexible and very hard wearing clouds...
God I need to get out more...

Nice clouds, Chris.
And yes, we all need to get out more.

Damage boxes are finally done!
My goal with these was to make them look dated, like something that'd been sitting around on a shelf since after the war.
Broken Token lasercut birch pieces are thin. To give the box corners the appearance of being nailed on, I clipped the heads from nails and glued them to the corner pieces with E6000. The corners themselves were then attached to the boxes with E6000 as well.
For the ABCD and propaganda posters, I weathered the art in photoshop and then printed them to clear waterslide decals, hoping that the lack of white would make it look like the inks had faded over the years. I applied multiple layers, as if posters had been pasted over posters, with heavier duty weathering of the "earlier" layers.
Central Powers on one side, Entente on the other.
ABCD decks (2 of each) along the edges, and XYZ decks (2 of each) in the middle.
Ready to play! One box is for myself, the other will be going to my dad, who I suckered into picking up "just a few planes" earlier in the year.
Those damage boxes look great, Chris

Awesome damage box Chris! I'm sure you'll get offers to make more of these.
Excellent!
REP incoming!

They are ridiculously good, how much did they cost to make? Because they are probably the best I’ve seen. Much deserving of much rep....

Very nicely pimped boxes Chris, liking the art work.

Most impressive Chris.

lovely job Chris, rep is yours
Thanks, all!
Cost-wise, they are pretty cheap, assuming you've got a use for the leftovers. Most of the effort was in time: staining, sanding, tending to the decals as they dried to minimize lifting and bubbling, and then giving everything a final matte clear coat.
Broken token mini card cases are $14. On top of that, I used a can of wood stain, polyurethane, corner protectors (I bought these), small nails, a tube of E6000, Micro Set/Sol, clear decal sheets, and clear coat, most of which I already had on hand.
Nice work Bob!
Bob, you should sit in a corner and think about what you have done.
So how many books are in your personal library?
My wife and I vacated our house for 2 weeks so that my daughter and family could do their quarantine in familiar surroundings so not much modeling for me. However, I did catch up on some reading!
One book from the local library:
Which spurred this purchase from the Book Depository:
Then on a visit to a model shop on the other side of town while my wife was off contributing to the economy of the fashion industry I spotted this superb volume which I just had to have!
Maybe I should have started a new thread and called it ‘Some lighter (than air) reading
Robert I wanted something different and thats what I did. I wasn't even drinking.
Nice thought Wayne..Lighter then Air Reaqding. Good choice.

Mike from you I consider that a very high compliment. I just used a micro brush and just dabbed dots the planes.
This month I decided to give a go to a dustcollecting starter set of Cruel Seas by Warlord Games. Sea battles of fast motorboats have been an unexplored area for me so far. Bought some books on that topic ("German E-boats", "E-boats vs. MTB") and plunged into simple glueing and painting of some Vospers and S-boats (10 in total). Finished all of them yesterday. Sprues turned into fine minis, IMHO. Now rules reading and playing. My buddy Darek is also excited and ready for some coastal battles!

Nice ships Andy. I did a few of their ships to use as targets.
It's a fun game, Andrzej.
Also check out David's blog entries on it, with useful house rules:

Beautiful work, Andrzej!

Very nice looking boats Andrzej. If you are getting into 1/300 coastal warfare you might want to look at Cyborg 3D Printing, who make some nice craft for prices less frightening than what Warlord Games are asking.
Have to admit I bought a couple of starter sets plus got a lot of the freebie boats off the front of Wargames Illustrated, but all are still collecting dust as I was put off by the poor rules reviews, and the space needed for a game. Both problems are solvable, one by using a different set of rules (there's a bloke on this forum, works for the navy, does a decent set - Manley I think his name is ), the second by moving to a bigger house!

Karl, I've got some inter-war vehicles from them and they are pretty good. Not got any ships but I've seen them and they too are good.

Gorgeous boats, really like the look of the game, might have to get a couple just to dip the toe in the water

Superb Andy.
The details are so crisp. What scale are these beauties?
I was wondering how they would stand up to a good strafing?
Never mind the scale IO just saw the remark about 1to 330 so they would do fine for a low leval passing attack.

Those are some fantastic boats! Thanks for providing some photos. Impressive detail and some nice added touches.
Thank to all of you for kind comments and some rep.
@Rob: they are in 1:300 scale and the detail level is just ok... although I wish they provided a full set of armament for the Vospers. They show all the mgs on the cards, but not every one is present on the minis.

Cheers Andy.
Looks like I will be buying into a few of those then.

Just spent Ł50 on the Starter set!
Thanks Andy, I think?

Buy a weapons pack and you can stuff as many guns on them as you have deck space for (don't blame me if it capsizes if you do ).

I remember watching "633 Squadron" at the Patio Theater in Chicago, 1964, I was in 8th grade. I loved it then and love it still. My brother Bob (BB401) had a 1/48 scale Mosquito in his storage box he built in the late 60s-early 70s - not sure of the manufacturer as it is a model for which he did not save the instructions. I have burdened you all with many rehabs during this horrible pandemic Lockdown (which seems to be getting nothing but worse) so here are some highlights of another which began on October 13. For all the gory details I once again direct your attention to https://theatomfurnace.blogspot.com/
I started with what immediate could be easily deconstructed.
Lots of cleaning, scraping, wet sanding. As well as fabrication of missing parts.
Of course repainting and detailing was required in my chosen Invasion Stripping scheme.
Finally new decals for Mosquito NF XIII MM465/NG-X of No 604 "County of Middlesex" Squadron, crewed by W/C H.M. Constable-Maxwell DFC, July 1944
Now I must go and watch "633 Squadron"
Excellent job, yet again, Will.
Looks terrific.
