Thread: PILOT STRATEGY & SKILL

  1. #1

    Default PILOT STRATEGY & SKILL

A dog fight between two Airco DH2s and two Halbestadt D.IIIs is a test of pilot strategy and skill. The DH2 and the Halbestadt both use the P deck and both have B guns, so there is no innate advantage to either plane. It is up to the pilots.
Of course, the other big factor in any outcome is the luck of the drawer with damage cards. No amount of skill or strategy can beat an explosion card, or take credit for a string of zeros!

Because we fly to enjoy the game, upon the downing of a DH2 we allowed a Morane Saulnier to join the fray, and a Fokker E.III for a Halbestadt.

(With a few exceptions the report shows photographs of when planes engaged with one another. I’ve left out general flying and manoeuvring to keep the length down.)

Oh! The indignity of being shot at by a DH2 while colliding with another!

Another collision – but at least it brings down a pesky DH2.

Who said something about ‘strategy and skill’? With all that sky to choose from, why is my own compatriot now crashing in to me?

That’s gotten rid of those DH2s! Now we can fly free.

Fire is the undoing of a Halbestadt.

And general battering by collisions and enemy fire are the undoing of the other.

(There was some unhappiness about the Morane being moved to join the game right in front of the Halbestadt with a jammed gun.)

Sort of like slow motion ballet but not quite as graceful

    Nice report, Doug!

It's hard to avoid collisions when your top speed is 2.9cm and you forget to use the turn signal when changing lanes.
