Book Title:Don't Let Them Bag the Nines: The First World War Memoir of a de Havilland PilotAuthor:Captain F. Williams MC DFC CdGISBN:9780750991315Category:BiographyFormat:HardbackSummary:The memoir of Captain Frederick Williams, who flew D.H.4's in photo reconnaissance and bomber raids over Germany in the latter part of the great war.
Produced from a manuscript found in an old First World War trunk together with his medals, logbooks and plane parts.
I found this an easy read, it is simply told, lacking in some detail and a little repetitive but interesting nonetheless as it dealt with a tandem pilot's recollections and gave me an insight to how things worked in a DH.4 in a conversational manner:
The pilot did the bombing, the observer had emergency controls in the rear, a communication cord between pilot & observer (tied to pilots arm), 4 guns carried, that sort of thing.
Available on Kindle for 99p at time of writing so well worth a read at that price.
