As a finishing touch Dave you could have the spotlight altimeter - - a clear slip of plastic with a couple of round stickers sat to the right side of the planes base as they run in on target !

I will be trying this Dave, working it onto clear acetate to add to the base as the bomber sets in for the bomb run, thanks!

    Tremendous work, Dave.
Could you post the size of your dam and the scale you have chosen ?
Do you play it with the official Ares Dambuster bombing rules and do you consider there is an altitude change for a AA gun settled on the down part of the river ?

  33. #83

    Default

The base is 4' x 6', the dam is 3' - 6" wide and is 8" tall on the down side and 1 1/2" high on the lake side. At 1/200" scale the dam was far too large to use so I have done some accommodations for practicality. Over the lake the bombers attack at an altitude of 3 small pegs. Once they cross the dam they are switched to 3 long pegs and 2 small ones, makes for a smooth transition. Hard banking turn and climb brings them to altitude to return to the lake side. AA guns on the towers have normal range limits and full arcs and decoy passes draw fire from attacking bombers, maybe . . . Have not played with any other AA locations yet. Official rules play well, I am playing with the range sight a bit and use the 3 peg altitude for the drop. It gets rather exciting during the bouncing stage as it is a long stretch over the terrain to move the bits! Not quite as simple as on the Ares micro mat! All is fun!!! My son is home from the NZ helping with the rules and action fun! - so expect some Flames of War & TANKS! influences . . .

In any case, the Möhne dam was 34 meters high and the Eder dam 42:

One height level in the game is 1.000 meters, so no influence on AA.
