I was wondering does anyone know if Wolfram Karl Ludwig Moritz Hermann Freiherr von Richthofen (Eight Kills), Manfred's cousin flew anything other than a Fokker Triplane in the war?

I believe he also flew a Fokker DVII as well.
Wolfram stayed with Jasta 11.

"Freiherr" ? Didn't know he was also a baron. Did he end up inheriting the title from the other two more famous brothers, or does the title come from a different part of the family line?
He inherited the title from his father. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfra...von_Richthofen
Here is a picture of his Fokker D.VII by Ronnie Bar. It looks like he followed his cousin in flying a red plane.

I have a couple of Shapeways DVIIs lurking somewhere in my stash and this colour scheme has piqued my interest. Can we assume red on the lower surfaces or blue or maybe anyone’s guess is as good as anyone elses?
I contacted Ronny via Facebook with the question of underside colours and this was his response:
'Hi Wayne... Thanks for your fine words..! In fact, after some info I receved fro Greg VanWynngarden and Eugene Ushakov, it seems that this D-VII was flown by Lothar instead of Wolfram... Anyway, the photos I've seen shows the whole of the airframe overpainted Red... So, you can go with an overall Red finish with no hesitation..!'
After thinking about Ronny's comments above, and remembering his predominantly yellow Triplane, I went on the usual Interweb trawl and turned up this scheme for a Lothar DVII:
At this rate, I'll need to get more DVIIs!

Are you kidding? Am I now going to have to paint TWO more D-VIIs? Of course I am, Coolio! Thanks - looks like lozenges on the underside on Lothar's. . .
Ha, admit it Dave - you love it
BTW, I was cleaning up after last Tuesday night's stoush at our place and realized that you may recognize this coaster:
We bought them from the gift shop on the western rim of the Grand Canyon when we were there a few years ago - I didn't realize that we were so close to you!!
And here is another view of the yellow/red DVII (looks like lozenge on the top of the bottom wing as well):

Wow! So close indeed! Figures it would be a big crack in the planet to keep us apart! Better next time, but the coaster is cool. Meanwhile I and the elves have not attempted the pile of Valom kits on the shelf . . .
Only the first three D.VIIs had blue on the underside of their wings, all others had lozenge. Only the "first batch" had blue on the underside of the fuselage; the vast majority had streaky olive green (in several different shades) then lozenge (majority overall).

Yet another reason we need a Schaffer repaint
(Hmm....I'm starting to sound like a certain Sopwith Triplane hater )

Hmm . . . must be the elves . . .
Handy both planes have red struts . . .
. . . Like the old Jello advert, there's always room for more . . .
Oh Dave, can you convince some of those elves to emigrate? I can put in a good word to our authorities - on the grounds that my mental health is at stake!

Hard to document shots and health details, best if they come unannounced. My passport expires this year as well . . .
as elves are legion, im reasonably sure you have indigenous elves in your area. you simply have to attract them and convince them to join your endeavors. i find engendering pity from them generally effective. however it will elicit copious amounts of ridicule from said elves lol. generally, its good natured though. at least as long as you keep them well provisioned with fruits and nuts lol.
Lots of great stuff!
I need some elves...............
I've got the D.VIIs put aside.

Okay, stop the research people, I do not need any more D-VII's!
"Need" has nothing to do with it..................

Well, I do have a set of decals for this one in my stash - Valom DV.II now ordered!
Dave, what pilots did you use, Peter Pig?
Where did you get the decals for that one? - it's my favourite, and all my attempts to produce homebrews have failed.........

Hi Tim
I bought them many years ago on a sheet called DVII Aces - I think from SRAM. I 'think' that they now produce resin !/144 kits only. See here:
https://www.hobbyshop.cz/
A search on their website for SRAM 1/144 will blow your mind would destroy your credit card balance if they were in stock - Clipper DO NOT LOOK!!
Addendum: Hannants appear to have limited stock of the SRAM kits - SIA 7-B, Nieuport N.10 and Halberstadt C.I.
https://www.hannants.co.uk/
Here is the sheet I purchased all those years ago:
The ones I have identified so far are:
Wilhelm Scheutzel (the reason I bought the sheet in the first place)
Carl Degelow
Oskar Heinrich
Hassow von Wedel
Gunther Schuster
Harald Auffarth
Karl Ritscherie
Paul Aue
Arthur Laumann
ernst Udet (red background)
Rudolf Berthold (Blue Background)
George von Hantelmann
Erich Mix
August Raben
Wilhelm Kuhn
The sheet is so small that its a bit difficult to identify some. for example, there is a black skull and cross bones that I can't link to anyone in my resources (the 2 Osprey volumes on D.VII aces).
Anyway, there are enough options to keep me poor buying Valom kits - 8 dual combo kits!!

My goodness, you are amazing, Clipper. People post a little research and a few days later, you produce it. It is like some sort of Elf driven Star Trek food replicator thingy.
no such thing as too many d7s dave!!!
I use Shapeways pilots since they are plentiful and inexpensive . . . the Peter Pig ones are quite nice, but my minis collection is enormous . . . several of us did the DVII in your picture many years ago, somewhere I have the decals and masters for our scale, they were originally published in 1/48" scale as I recall, Zoe will know . . .
Tim, that is an amazing DVII collection! Whoa!
Tim, that is a wonderful collection of D.VIIs!
They don't just look great. Tim flies them expertly as well.
That's enough D-VIIs to take on Barker!
Think I have been shot down by most of them
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Speaking of D.VIIs, I was given this as an early Father's Day present:
It contains a wealth of CAD images of just about every nook and cranny of the D.VII:
Plus some wonderful colour schemes - Stark (whom we have as an official mini) plus these two:
Looking at the inside back cover, Kagero also have volumes on the S.E.5a, Albatross D.1 - D.Va, Sopwith Camel and Fokker Dr.I - that should see me fixed for Christmases and birthdays!

Very nice Wayne

Super book - very expensive, but worth it!

Here we are, the Seven Swabians, 1/48 scale
Awesome Clipper!
Thank the elves for me!

I think Zoe has made the Seven Swabians decals in 1/144 scale, think they are on the site somewhere
