Default 75th anniversary of VJ Day

Victory over Japan day. The day World War Two ended with Japan's surrender.

To all who served the allied cause in the far east to bring the war to it's conclusion - we thank you.

Particularly, for me, to those men and women of the British 14th Army who served in India & Burma, of which my father was one.

    We will remember them.

In his element ! This was probably south of Imphal in the hills between India & Burma

    Here's to that.

My Dad was part of the 2nd Division Artillery in Burma and India.

I inherited his ring with the divisional crest.

My dad was on the USS San Diego. The San Diego was given the honor of leading the fleet into Tokyo Bay for the surrender. A good short history of the San Diego can be seen 'HERE'.

They sailed in at battle stations and were quite relieved that they were not shot at or attacked by Kamakazis when in the confines of Tokyo Bay.

A Salute to all who served in this conflict. We owe them a great debt.
My adopted brother Geoff (18 years older than me) was captured in Singapore but against the odds survived but died some years ago now.

    Yes, we will remember them.

My Dad was in India too but his unit were not sent up into the combat zone. I had a great uncle, who was captured and put in a Japanese prison camp. They tell me that he was never right in the head again after he returned home.

My uncle Bill was HMS Swiftsure in the Royal Navy Pacific Fleet at the end of the war. Now sadly passed away but fondly remembered
as are all those who served.

Thanks and remembrance to them all.

My father was too young to serve; his father was down the coal mines for the duration - he died from black lung disease aged 41.
My other grandfather was a London fireman during the Blitz.
I don't seem to have any relatives who served abroad in WW2 (though some did National Service afterwards).

salute to all the people involved in winning victory for the allies and saving the world. my grandfather philip edward bauer who, though having a young family tried to enlist at least 6 times that i know of. he was turned down for testing out at II to IV A and II B. he had served previously in the ohio national guard 37th inf div and, despite not enjoying the service, felt his military and pattern making/woodworking experience would be valuable to the military. he consoled himself by being a civil defense block warden despite working a lot of overtime.
ive always wondered what it wouldve been like had he been accepted or volunteered for something like the seabees.
    salute to all
