Thread: Achtung! Spitfeuer!

  1. #1

    Default Achtung! Spitfeuer!

Spent a rather pleasant day at IWM Duxford today, mainly to have a look at the "Spitfire - Evolution of an Icon" exhibition. 12 Spitfires brought together, ranging from a Mk I to a Mk 22, with a training version thrown in for good measure.

Lots more pics to bore yourself with here

And of course it would have been rude not to have bought something from the shop on the way out

A question about picture #9/43: really a Spitfire MkVb serial MH434 as written in comment or a Mk IX?

Perhaps the most famous of all Spitfires still flying today, MH434 was built in 1943 by Vickers at Castle Bromwich. This Spitfire Mk IXB is completely original and has never been fully rebuilt.

Yep, my bad! It's a Mk IX alright. How did I get that wrong twice? I blame the Battle of Britain Amber Ale

Ok there's no harm done... I sometimes say or write inaccurate things while abusing Armagnac, a typical drink of southwest France...

Nevertheless superb collection of Spitfires; thank you once again for sharing all these images.
